The guy was very helpful and knowledgeable to his job and the questions I asked. I like the Byron post office, everyone there seems to be knowledgeable, efficient, friendly and helpful.

I have only been to this location a couple times because my frequented location is in Howell and this post office is on my way home from work. Of course I get out of work late today and I knew I’d be cutting it close IF they closed at 5 because I am used to later hours with other post offices. So, I would try my luck seeing as I had to get my care package (boyfriend is deployed) out today. I get caught by a train but am able to walk in shortly before 5pm, behind a couple who seemed flustered about getting there just before 5... I quickly ‘glanced’ at the door to check the hours and didn’t see anything posted, but the lady working the counter seemed fine helping them real quick so I walked in. I quickly filled out my paperwork, even asked to assure I was filling out the right customs slip and waited as she tended to the couple in front of me. Of course as I am waiting, the post office closes... great, not like me to come in RIGHT before anything closes because I’ve worked customer service before and understand it’s a Friday and people just want to get home. On the other hand, I am the type that if someone needs assistance and time is of the essence, I will offer it regardless. The last time I was in (a week ago), I was literally in and out in a minute along with visiting my usual Howell location, so I had hoped I’d be out in about the same seeing as there wasn’t a line. Well, not the case because of issues not of my own (computer)... At this point, 25min have gone by and another lady who’d been working in the back finally comes up to assist after being asked for help. She then so rudely explains that my box would most likely not make the truck out today, and I said ‘ok that is fine’ and her response was, “no as in your box can’t stay here overnight and we most likely can’t process your transaction because our ‘systems shut down at 5’, when we close.” Lies, because my transaction was later processed. She then proceeds to correct the employee who was having issues processing my transaction and I finally feel we are getting somewhere. Lady who “appeared to be in charge” then walks away and loudly (she evidently wanted me to hear her) states how extremely rude it was of ME to come in right before close. I then proceed to ask the kind employee who’d been trying to help me if I had come in before they closed and if I was ok and she told me to ignore her and seemed embarrassed by her comment. She then admitted it wasn’t my fault and that I had tried making sure my paperwork and everything was good. Of course at this point I am mortified and wanted to scream back that I’d heard her rude unprofessional remark... but I don’t.
Funny thing is, when I was in last week I almost commended the “rude lady in charge” for dealing with a couple who seemed annoyed with the post office upon my walking in. No customer service employee deserves to be disrespected so long as the reason is legit, but the couple walked out on a better note than when I walked in on so I figured everything was fine...(I could sense sarcasm in their voice as they told the postal worker to have a good day and then left). Kind of makes me wonder what it is that got them so irritated... or maybe it’s just the rude employee? Guess I will never know.
Contemplating never going to this post office in the future but then again, my mindset has now shifted toward... if your hours are til 5, they’re til 5. Get over it. If I walk in 10minutes before you close, you can bet I’ll have a smile on my face as you process my mail because you’re open til 5, not 4:50. Enjoy your 3 day weekend.
