Across the vast and varied span, Of peak and plain and coastal sand, A steady pulse begins its run, Before the rising of the sun. In azure trim and weathered white, Through silver rain and winter night, The carriers of paper dreams Traverse the hills and rushing streams. A handwritten note from far away, A bill that’s due, a child at play Who waits beside the slotted door For news from some distant shore. No mountain pass is far too steep, No forest trail is buried deep Beyond the reach of those who bear The weight of every word and care. From bustling streets in concrete gray, To gravel roads where shadows sway, The rhythmic click of iron gates Connects the lives of fifty states. An eagle’s wing upon the chest, A mission that defies the rest; They carry more than ink and bond, They forge the silent, sacred bond. Through humid heat and biting gale, The miracle of daily mail Secures the thread of common ground, In every city, every town. It is a service, old and vast, A bridge from future to the past, Where every stamp and sorted line Ensures our stories stay entwined. So let the heavy satchel swing, Let every bell and buzzer ring, For in each envelope we find The heartbeat of all humankind. A legacy of grit and grace, In every heart and every place, The post remains the quiet hand That holds the spirit of the land.

We are disabled seniors who live in the boonies. 3 months in a row our delivery person has cost us about $130 in late fees. Once they took our bills & check for stamps, 7 days later we received ALL our bills back *postage due*, the next day our stamps. Evidently the driver couldn't figure out how to put stamps on envelopes. The following month the delivery man put our mail in the neighbor's box, more late fees. How they did this is beyond my comprehension as our name and number are clearly printed in LARGE letters & numbers. This month stamps went up, I put a check in for stamps & penny stamps. I included 5 stamps at the old price. Got a note back no such thing as a 1%¢ stamp unless I come in and in to the window, did mention we're old & disabled? Got these bills back 4 days later, on a Saturday. Now they won't go back out until Monday. The old stamps I have are worthless, I'm out that money & have $130 in late fees AGAIN! Our old mail lady would just pay what we were short & we paid her back. I guess .20¢ from anyone was just too much to ask. Way better we have the late fees. They couldn't give me my stamps because they can't/won't give change back for checks. We've lived here 36 years & never had the trouble we've had in the last few months. Before May I would have given their service 5 stars, now I'd give them -5 stars if I could.
