Saturday 05/15/2022 This event happen between 11am and 12pm. I went to my local post office in Bridgton today to send a gift to one of my nieces in Angola. My package included a PlayStation 3, two controllers and many games. There was a long line today due to a printer malfunction. I stood in line for about 40 minutes waiting for my turn. I was next and a guy who was behind me asked me with a smile on his face how it felt to be next. I responded to him it felt so good and I was enjoying the air conditioner. We both laughed at it. It was finally my turn; I approached the woman at the corner and told her that it was an international package. She weighed the box and asked me where it was going. I told her Angola. She replied to me that I had to fill the US custom form and she was not going to process an international package in less than 20 minutes from closure per the USPS police. I complied and stepped aside to fill the form. She looked at me and reiterated that she was not going to process it today. I responded to her that I was simply filling the form. I asked her how much it was going to cost anyway. Since she had weighed the box already, she told me it was going to cost around $138. As I was filling it, the next customer, a white woman, approached the corner and told her that she had an international package. The woman at the corner told her the same policy and added yours is different because you had a US custom form already filled out. It didn’t take me 4 minutes to fill the form. I felt sad and disappointed. I stood there waiting to be treated fairly. She looked at me and reiterated that she was not going to process mine. I told her your policy said you should not process any international package in less than 20 minutes from closure. I added you told this woman the same exact policy, but you still processed her package. Then I told her it was a double standard. She started arguing that the woman has been waiting on the line. I told her I was on the line for about 40 minutes. She went on saying that she had no time to process mine, she had to finish helping the woman before her and the next customer. I again felt sad because to this woman I was not a customer. Interestingly, even the woman that she favored told her that she could stop processing her package. She didn’t want to cause any trouble and could come back on Monday. I looked around and noticed that the next customer was looking at her firmly but didn’t say a word. I apologized to the woman who was being served and told the woman at the corner that I wanted her to know that she had a double standard. She looked at me and said now she was feeling threaten and asked me to leave. I knew who I was dealing with, and I decided to leave the premise.
