We're concerned every time we place an order and it comes through USPS vs UPS or FedEx. (And Amazon uses them instead of their own trucks, as I assume it's "that rural" here.) Our last experience was typical of the ineptitude of this building. A family member asked if we received their package, as tracking showed it had been "held at post office" for 3 days. (Who knew? We never had a notice in our mailbox, despite the address being correct!) My husband went immediately on the 18th, said it was there since the 15th (Saturday), and the postal worker said it wasn't there. "Maybe try after 2 pm." As other complaints mentioned, this office is closed 12-2--I was told they help with the local hubs sorting, etc..
I left work early, as this location also closes at the early hour of 4pm. When I went, Dan said he thought he'd seen it (when? After my husband left!?), so he went around the wall to look for it. "Nope, I don’t... ah yes, there it is." He asked for my ID to get the package, despite knowing me from several other complaints. We live in a tiny town, and he knows very well where we live. When I saw the tiny package that would have EASILY fit in our mailbox, it had a question mark near the address. I guess the driver was perplexed about... what exactly?
That's typical, as they can never find us... although we live on a main road. LITERALLY. We've complained several times to Dan about the excuses as to why mail can't reach out. "House not found. No access. Business closed. Item held for pickup." Sometimes, they're returned to sender, after "being held" for 2 days. Of course we never know the packages are there, because no notice is ever left to notify us. While Dan is very nice, his excuses are tiresome... he gives me a number to the local annex, so I can call to complain. This is apparently the main hub where our mail passes through final sorting, and is delivered via minivan. Good luck calling, though. They NEVER answer the phone, and I assume it's because they don't want to listen to complaints. Even hes complained, so I wonder why he gave us their number. Their driver may or may not find you, depending if it's the regular guy or "the kid," I was told.
Sometimes, they miss our house completely, or stop right before our development... they turn around at the houses before us, and end for the day. Milford has another few miles on this road, so all of us don't get mail when this happens. They simply pick an excuse why they can't deliver and return to their main hub in Orono. Day over. Wish we could all choose when to end our work day and not answer for not doing our job!
And yes, Milford lacks a post office that sorts mail or has delivery trucks. It's literally a building with 2 employess, PO Boxes, and... held mail. It's a joke and waste of town, federal, and taxpayer money. The Old Town post office is right over the bridge 1 mile away, and is much nicer and useful. I'd rather travel there--might as well close this poor excuse for a post office!
I'd caution everyone who wants to move to Milford, as you WILL have trouble with your mail. And no one cares, nor will anything change. You can see the same complaints have been an issue for 8 years, yet there's no resolution. This post office is a complete joke!!
