RE Takoma Park P..O. The last reviewer painted a terrible picture re 1 staff person right before Christmas, and yes, he named USPS, not the local staff. But he failed to praise the woman (LeeAnn Jane, I believe) who has worked diligently over the years: alway friendly, helpful and polite, despite being the solo staff person at counter, being overworked, and the stress of a long line. And the generally positive attitude of most people in line who use the Post Office. For this I give it a Five! Yes, Takoma Park Post Office is short staffed, despite efforts by staff there and I assume others who have advocated. (But I spent an equally long time in line at Washington, DC Post Office in upper Northwest, over on Connecticut or Wisconsin, forgetting which, at this time of year.) It's a cozy neighborhood location where you can tell that there are regulars and that those who frequent the location, know the tellers by name. The service that location provides however doesn't match the customer load sadly. It's the 3rd time that I've visited and the line has been at or outside the door and they only have 1 teller. To be fair to the employee, this isn't their fault and the service once you got to the counter was just fine. There's no good management excuse for why you are constantly short staffed between the hours of 3pm-5pm. The drop off package area is overflowing to the point where companies can't palce anything and the mail pickup area is a mess making the time for the employee to short through it all that much more time consuming. Would suggest that any would be patron consider the following alternatives:
-Visited another UPSP location with adequate staffing
-Visit this location only before 2pm on the week days
-If you can spare the expense, use another carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc).
To this locations management: staff to the needs of the community. I'm old enough to remember when USPS was proudly staffed and smartly maintained. I'd like to see a return to that, particularly in such a historic community as Takoma Park.

One person working on the afternoon of the last day you have to ship stuff to arrive before Christmas. The line is literally out the door. This is the most unacceptable thing I have ever experienced in my life. If you want to know why USPS is so widely hated and going bankrupt, come no further than here.

They are relatively near and I have been going there for over 15 years. Those who have worked there for awhile always acknowledge me as a regular customer, and the newer employees are also friendly and helpful.
After 6 years the above is still true, but during this busiest times of the day they are under staffed.
