I am writing to report a disturbing and unprofessional incident that occurred at the UPS Store on E. 70th Street. I regularly visit this location to return items. The process has always been simple: an employee scans the barcode(s), and I leave. On this visit, the only employee present was a bald Indian male employee, who has consistently displayed a hostile attitude during previous visits. Upon entering, he instructed me to place my return bag on the scale. He then began removing my items and placing them on the floor one by one. After that, he told me to come around behind his computer station pointed to the ground of where he threw the bags and identify which items corresponded to each return. This was unusual and unnecessary, as I have never been asked to do this before. The items were already individually packaged in clear zip-lock bags with matching photos, making them easy to identify: 9 items total. As I’m standing there, I questioned why I needed to step behind the counter and perform his job, especially since the information was clearly visible. At that point, a female customer intervened without provocation, stating that her husband was color-blind. This comment was irrelevant to the situation. I responded that the employee was capable of seeing and simply appeared unwilling to do the task. The woman then became verbally aggressive, repeatedly telling me to “shut up” and threatening to physically assault me if I did move away from the employee’s computer and not help him. She explicitly stated she would “kick my ass.” I remained calm and asked the employee to get a manager due to the escalating situation. When I pointed out that her behavior was inappropriate, she attempted to reverse the situation by calling me a “Karen.” She then mocked me, saying she was surprised I had not started recording. At that point, I began recording on my phone. When asked to repeat her threat, she denied making it. During this time—approximately 10 minutes—the employee stalled the process, deliberately scanning items one at a time despite my earlier explanation that the task was straightforward. He appeared to intentionally move slowly, smirk, and prolong the interaction. I even had to point out that unzipping a bag and comparing the item to the photo was all that was required. He acknowledged this but continued to delay. Throughout the remainder of the interaction, the female customer continued to laugh, instigate, and encourage the situation. Beware of Karen at the UPS locations!

The posted closing time is 4pm, and I arrived a few minutes before closing. Despite seeing me at the door, the staff ignored my knocks and request for assistance. As a small business owner who depends on reliable service, this was extremely disappointing. This location is not accommodating or supportive of small business accounts at all.

I will never use this location ever again! I recently dropped a package off there on a Sunday that was supposed to be given to the USPS on Monday, well when I tried to check the tracking number to see how far the package had gone it was showing that the package was never scanned into the system. When I spoke to the owner asking if he would make sure that the guy that printed the label and taped up the package actually did so and that the package was given to the postman he refused to do so and was very rude about the whole situation. I know mistakes happen but there was no harm in him checking to make sure that the package was actually passed on. Maybe if I was a different color I would’ve gotten better service.
