I had a very frustrating experience at the United States Postal Service – Wood Dale Post Office during my passport appointment today. I scheduled an appointment for 10:00 AM and arrived five minutes early, expecting the process to go smoothly since it was my first time applying for a passport. Unfortunately, the front desk associates and the employee handling passports seemed completely unprepared to answer basic questions. The first issue was that they refused to accept my birth certificate, claiming it was not an original — even though it had the official seal and was clearly not a copy. The second issue was being told I arrived late, which was simply not true. Despite having an appointment and arriving early, I still had to wait about 12 minutes in line behind customers shipping multiple parcels. The associate then told me to go to the United States Postal Service – Itasca Post Office because they supposedly accept walk-ins daily. After going there, I learned that information was incorrect — they only accept walk-ins Tuesday through Friday. What makes this situation even more frustrating is that when I went to the Wood Dale location the week prior to ask about applying for a passport, I was only told to schedule an appointment. No one mentioned the Itasca location or their walk-in availability, which could have saved me time and stress from the beginning. However, once I arrived at the Itasca location, the experience was completely different. The postal worker there carefully reviewed all of my documents and verified that everything I had brought was valid and correct — including my birth certificate that Wood Dale refused to accept. They were professional, helpful, and answered all my questions without any hassle. They even went above and beyond by accepting and processing our application on a day they normally do not handle passport applications. Overall, the Wood Dale location needs to show more understanding and respect toward customers, especially first-time passport applicants, and ensure accurate information is given. On the other hand, I highly recommend visiting the Itasca, IL location if you have the opportunity. Their staff was knowledgeable, accommodating, and truly provided excellent customer service.

I don't understand how it's still open, or at least why the same people are still there? They made me miss my appointment three times, when they could have explained everything the first time I needed them. They're really useless; the service is terrible.

I don't understand why there is only 1 person working here on Saturday morning? I've been next in line for 30 minutes because the guy in front of me had 9 certifieds and the worker was slow. The line behind me keeps getting longer and longer. The lady was really nice and thanked us for our patience but there is no excuse for not having a2nd person to help.

Another case of this post office losing packages. No update on an order for 3 weeks before they declared the package lost. Ship thru a different office if you can.
