This happened a while ago but I just got chance to write a complete review to share my extremely frustrating and unbelievable experience at the Hinsdale Post Office on July 31st. A while ago, I purchased a USPS money order for $115 to pay for a Brazil visa application. Later, my trip was canceled, so I went back to the post office to request a refund. The staff there told me they could not refund it and that I should cash it at a bank. I went to the Chase branch next door, and the banker told me the opposite: USPS must handle refunds for USPS-issued money orders. She even printed the USPS official policy for me and mentioned I was not the first person whom USPS incorrectly sent to the bank. I returned to the post office and handed the money order to a middle-aged female employee. She glanced at it and said she didn’t have enough cash to refund it. She told me to “come back another time.” I asked how much cash she had and how much was missing. She said she had about $80 and was short about $35. I asked whether coming back tomorrow morning would help. She responded, “I don’t know, you can come and try your luck.” I said I would wait. While waiting, I politely asked other customers if anyone was paying in cash, hoping to make up the difference. The employee raised her voice at me and said I was not allowed to “bother her customers.” One customer offered to pay $7 in cash, but most others used cards. I didn’t want to keep making multiple trips over something so simple, so I suggested I could buy some stamps to make the cash amount sufficient. She said, “Do whatever you want.” So I bought $30 worth of stamps (despite already having plenty at home). When she was giving me the refund, I noticed she actually had more cash in the drawer than she claimed earlier. I pointed it out, but she ignored me. And then something even more unacceptable happened. After each transaction, the customer screen shows a satisfaction rating with three options: happy face, neutral face, and unhappy face. I intended to select the unhappy face rating, but before I could, she quickly pressed the happy face herself. I told her this was the customer’s right to choose, not hers. I then asked to speak with her supervisor. She replied, “I am the supervisor.” I asked who her supervisor reports to. She told me to call USPS customer service if I wanted to complain. This level of unprofessionalism, rudeness, and dishonesty is absolutely unacceptable.

I went in to do a change of address. The male employee told me to fill out a form and said it would take seven business days for my mail to start forwarding. I even asked twice if that was all I needed to do, and he confirmed it was. Over a month later, I still had not received any mail. When I called customer service, I found out no change of address had ever been processed. Absolutely unbelievable. Despite multiple follow-ups with USPS customer service, Hinsdale postal service still failed to resolve the issue. What a complete failure of service — I am incredibly disappointed. Shame on USPS Hinsdale for such negligence and lack of accountability.

One person working, AC wasn't on, line was out the door, no self service kiosks. Just save your time and go to Downers Grove.

The staff at this location is always helpful. I never had any issues with mis-sorted mail or lost packages by them in my time with a PO box there. I once had a PO box key that wasn’t working, and the staff immediately tested the key to double check and gave me a replacement without any trouble. It was resolved even more quickly than the line had moved for me to get up the counter. :)
