You'd be faster walking your package to its intended location. And people would be friendlier to you while you're doing it

This morning, January 7, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., I was at the Evanston Post Office picking up my hold mail at window 5. The postal clerk assisting me was polite and professional. She asked me to wait briefly while she retrieved my mail.
While she was away, I overheard another employee make extremely inappropriate and offensive comments toward her. As the clerk returned to the service window with my mail, she apologized to me, but I could still hear the other employee continuing to shout insults and make threatening remarks from the back area.
Because the situation was so disturbing, I walked over to Window Two to see who was causing the disruption. I observed a short-built woman with dreadlocks yelling, while a tall male employee stood in front of her attempting to get her to stop.
This behavior was completely unprofessional and concerning. No employee should be verbally harassed or threatened by a coworker, especially in a public area where customers can hear it. I am also concerned about why non-clerk staff, such as letter carriers or other employees, are allowed near the service window, as this appears to be a safety and professionalism issue.
I felt very uncomfortable witnessing this situation and truly felt bad for the clerk who was assisting me.

Staff member was rude and unhelpful. Do all your research yourself before applying for a passport here, you will not be given help. Arrive 15-20 mins early unless you want to be talked down to and wait much longer.

Walked in with the simple need to send a letter. Needed an envelope. No envelopes on the shipping supplies cart. Ok, fine. Waited in line, got to agent. Agent greeted me with a scowl before I said a word. I asked for an envelope, she looked at me as if I had a chicken’s head on my neck, as if to ask, “why would you want an envelope at the post office?” I left and went to UPS. Much better experience. I’m all for public mail if it’s done well.
2 stars instead of 1 because I’m sure the workers are stressed due to the holidays.

I have been coming to this location since 1994. I have found the staff to be helpful and polite. I can’t remember any rude treatment from the postal workers. I wish I could say the same about all the people waiting in line! I remember staff working hard to find a missing package for me, helping me figure the most cost-effective service, and many smiles and cheerful good mornings from the workers here. Two times recently when someone went out of their way to help me: #1. The first time I made a sale online for resale platform, I printed out my postage and brought the package to this location, but was unfamiliar with all the shipping options the the time. I will never forget the postal worker who made sure I ended up choosing to get a paper and email receipt so that I could prove I had mailed my package, because she noticed the name of the resale platform on my package. She was absolutely right. She also explained how to get a receipt from the self-serve kiosk, in the future, which means I can now skip the line. Another manager once went way out of her way to help me when the person scheduled to process applications that day called in sick. They called to cancel the appointment and try to save me a trip. But I didn’t see it and came in person with my daughter, who was leaving for college the next day. She found a way to process my daughter’s application and gave her the oath so we could get it done before she left. She listened to our situation and made sure we weren’t impacted by her employee calling in sick, even though it wasn’t her fault.
Yes, there is a line sometimes. The Google data shows that most people spend 15 minutes at this location. I think they do a good job with the level of staffing they have and the level of animosity I sometimes see directed at them from customers.
