    The manager and employees here are always so nice. However, the owner refuses to listen to reason and follow the law that you cannot charge more than $5 for a general notarization if the client comes to your place of business. I have both emailed the store and now talked in person to no avail. I called the Secretary of State Index Department today to confirm that they cannot charge more than $5. Please get your notarizations performed elsewhere. If anyone charges you money to "review'" the document (and they aren't an attorney, also illegal), or a "convenience fee" for not having an appointment, it is in violation of the law (Class A misdemeanor). If they are found guilty of overcharging again within 5 years, it's a Class 3 felony. Signed, A Notary Public Instructor Sec. 3-104. Maximum fee. (a) Except as otherwise provided in this subsection [for immigration forms] (a), the maximum fee for non-electronic notarization in this State is $5 for any notarial act performed and up to $25 for any notarial act performed pursuant to Section 3-102 [document of conveyance].
