Before visiting, I had read online that Post Office branches could exchange notes for coins, so I came here to change a £20 note into twenty £1 coins to use the self-service machines at a laundrette. My request was refused, and I was told it was to prevent money laundering. What upset me most was that I had just seen another customer receive a cash exchange. The staff member was rude and disrespectful throughout the interaction, which made the experience even more unpleasant. As an Asian tourist and a mother, I left feeling that I had been treated differently because of my race. I cannot know the reason for the difference in treatment, but the inconsistent service and the way I was spoken to made me feel unwelcome. I understand that businesses have policies about cash exchanges, but those policies should be applied consistently and respectfully to everyone. My experience was very disappointing, and I hope the management will review both their policy and how customers are treated so that no one else has a similar experience.
