I have used this post office for many years, and it was always excellent. Mac, the former postmaster, was fantastic—consistently polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, since his retirement, the service has declined significantly.
I previously completed my own and another child’s Irish citizenship and passport applications through this branch with no issues at all. However, my recent experience when submitting my daughter’s Irish citizenship and passport documents at Rose Green Post Office was very disappointing.
From the outset, the atmosphere felt unfriendly and, in my opinion, unprofessional. There was a young child/teen behind the counter listening to customer conversations and even speaking over customers at times. While I chose not to make an issue of this, it did not create a professional environment.
When it was my turn, I asked to send important documents to the passport office in Dublin using a tracked and signed service. Initially, the staff member attempted to send the documents within the UK. After correcting this, a colleague asked what I was sending. When I explained it was a passport application for Ireland, I was abruptly told, “It won’t get there—go home and do it online.”
I clarified that I had already completed the online application and that supporting documents needed to be sent physically. Despite this, I was spoken to in a rude and condescending manner. I was told that, based on their experience, the documents would either get lost or sit in a pile for 3–6 months. This was presented with a dismissive “I know what I’m talking about” attitude.
I explained that I had recently completed the same process successfully, with documents delivered and signed for within four days. Nevertheless, the staff member remained dismissive and unhelpful. As I left, I also heard unpleasant comments made behind the counter.
I have been a customer of this post office for over 25 years, as have my relatives. Sadly, based on this experience, I will not be returning. I would rather travel further to a post office where staff are professional, courteous, and knowledgeable.
For reference, I have included tracking information confirming that the documents were successfully delivered to Ireland within 10 days. This directly contradicts the inaccurate information I was given.
I do not usually leave public complaints, as I prefer to resolve issues directly. However, the level of unprofessionalism, poor attitude, and misinformation I experienced on this occasion needs to be addressed.
It is a real shame, as this was once a valued village post office. Unfortunately, I will now choose to use other branches where the service meets a professional standard.
