Why doesn't DHL include duties and taxes in its delivery prices?
The Customs authorities in the destination country determine whether any duties and taxes are applicable when the parcel arrives. This is based on the information provided on the parcel label (or waybill) and Customs paperwork, such as the contents, declared value and weight.
Why is the receiver being asked to pay Custom duties and taxes?

Do I need to create Customs paperwork for my parcel?
If a parcel (non-document item) is being sent internationally (including to Europe), a Customs invoice is required. If a parcel is being sent nationally (within the UK and to the Channel Islands), a Customs invoice is not required.
If you are dropping off a parcel at a DHL Service Point, your Customs invoice will be printed in store, along with your parcel labels.
When you book a collection online, you will be prompted to complete Customs information and the invoice will print automatically with your parcel labels.

Can I use my own packaging with DHL?
We can accept parcels in your own packaging when booking a courier collection online or by phone. We can also accept parcels in your own packaging at selected DHL Service Points that are designated DHL Express Service Centres (owned by DHL) where we have the capability to measure and weigh your parcel.
The rest of the drop off locations that are part of our DHL Service Point network do not have the capability to measure and weigh your parcel.

What happens if no one is available to receive my parcel?
If there is no one available to accept the parcel, our DHL Express courier will usually leave a calling card at the address informing the receiver that they have tried to deliver a parcel. The receiver can then either collect the parcel from their local DHL Express Service Point or arrange another delivery. If they arrange another delivery, this can be to an alternative address. Just search on Google for "DHL Express On Demand Delivery" and enter the parcel tracking number.
How do I insure my document or parcel and what will I be charged?

Transit times are the same for all our services. While many of our locations are open seven days a week for dropping parcels off, our couriers only collect Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).
