Please be warned that this new owner will sneakily upsell you a postage service you neither asked for nor need. It is a REALLY DISHONEST business practice that I am calling out.
A few times over the last 10 months or so I have specifically asked for “Royal Mail Signed For® 1st Class” but he then mutters “Special Delivery” rings the till and asks for the Special Delivery price (a lot more). Each time, I have repeated what I want and he will say “this won’t arrive until [much later date]” which IS A LIE. I held my ground every time and Royal Mail provided the service I expected (first class timeframe with a signature from the recipient).
Yes, he comes across as your friendly village postmaster but, frankly, the bloke is a crook who is pressuring customers to spend more than they need to. Many customers won’t be as confident or attuned to the deception as I’ve been, which angers me. Foreign students, the elderly, etc. Disgraceful practice.

The new owner is much better. He opens the post office every day of the week from 7:30am to 8pm. This is an excellent service. Well done

Heslington Post Office is under new ownership for those who do not know, and the owner and staff are absolutely wonderful. They know me by name and always go above and beyond to help.
I run an online business and often arrive with several parcels. As someone who hates feeling like I’m inconveniencing others, their patience, kindness and encouragement mean so much. They never make me feel like a nuisance and always welcome me with a smile.
Going in has genuinely become a highlight of my day, and their support helps make my little business possible. Please support this fantastic local business. Heslington is very lucky to have them!

Heslington Post is a brilliant local post office and a real asset to the community. The owner works incredibly hard, is always helpful, and consistently goes the extra mile to find a solution, even when something is complicated or time-sensitive. It is also hugely appreciated that he stays open late, which makes life so much easier for people who cannot get there during normal working hours.
Friendly, reliable, practical, and genuinely community-minded. Highly recommended.
