- PJPerry Joyce4 days ago1.0Very frustrating experience with the Post Office service at this branch. I had a Royal Mail parcel redirected here for collection. At 13:03 on Saturday I received an email confirming that the parcel had been successfully delivered to the collection point, and I arrived at the branch at around 13:30. The shop itself was open normally, and the Post Office’s own website showed the branch as open on Saturdays from 7am–9:30pm, with services available at the branch. I went to the counter, said I was there to collect a parcel and gave the member of staff my name. He then began looking through the parcels behind the counter. After he was unable to find mine, he told me that the Post Office was actually closed and that I would have to come back on Monday. Only after leaving did I notice a printed notice on the door saying the Post Office was closed due to “unforeseen circumstances”. I completely understand that unexpected closures can happen. What I don’t understand is why the closure was not reflected anywhere customers could reasonably check before travelling. Royal Mail had confirmed my parcel had been delivered there less than half an hour earlier, while the Post Office’s own website was still showing the branch as open. I also found the interaction with the member of staff quite dismissive. He had already started searching through the parcels before telling me the Post Office was closed, and there was no apology or acknowledgement at all that I had made a wasted journey based on the information provided by Royal Mail and Post Office. If the branch is unexpectedly unable to provide Post Office services, that really needs to be reflected promptly in the online information and, ideally, in the systems used for parcel collections. A notice on the door only tells customers once they have already wasted their time getting there. Hopefully this is something that can be improved so other customers don’t have the same experience.
