I’ve never been humiliated in my life like today. I went to this post office for DBS verification, the man on the counter fort told me that I looked different from the picture on my passport. I asked him why and how then he replied maybe it’s because you’re wearing scarf now. I stayed silent, When I tried to make my passport flat he bundled it roughly until it ripped. When I tried to tell him that he ripped my passport, she just denied it and said he was just making it flat. So I said to him, can you please give me your full name because I’m going to raise a complaint against you. He refused, he told me that his name is Kumar, I said sir I need your full name please and I want to speak to your manager. Then I took photo of him. He became angry, the person he pointed as the manager was not the manager. When I turned to him, he said he wouldn’t speak to me if I don’t delete the photo of his colleague. I said that I’m not going to delete the photo. He then said that he’s not going to speak to me. I took a photo of him too. He called me a weirdo 3 times and I simply said thank you and left. The incident happened today around 10:49 am.

Please do not go to Whitechapel Post Office! Poor customer service specially the young guy. I had a very disappointing and upsetting experience at Whitechapel Post Office while attending an appointment for a DBS check. I presented an HSBC bank statement as proof of address. The staff member informed me that it was a printed copy and therefore could not be accepted. However, the statement had actually been sent to me by HSBC through the post. To clarify the situation, I visited my HSBC branch, where staff confirmed that this is the standard format of bank statements they currently issue. They also provided a covering letter confirming that the statement was authentic and belonged to me. I returned to the Post Office with the letter from HSBC, expecting the matter to be resolved. Instead, the staff member dismissed it and stated that he “didn’t care” about the letter. I found this response extremely unprofessional and disrespectful, especially considering that the letter had been issued by the bank specifically to verify the authenticity of the document. What upset me most was not the refusal itself, but the way I was treated. The staff member spoke to me in a rude and dismissive manner in front of other customers, which left me feeling embarrassed and humiliated. At one point, he repeatedly stated that he had already explained the matter several times. I remained polite throughout the conversation and simply wanted to understand why an official confirmation from HSBC was being ignored. Customer service staff should treat people with courtesy and respect, even when they are unable to accept a document. No customer should be made to feel belittled or dismissed when seeking assistance. I hope management investigates this incident and takes appropriate action. Customers visit the Post Office for a service and deserve to be treated professionally and respectfully at all times.
