Please do not go to Whitechapel Post Office!
Poor customer service specially the young guy.
I had a very disappointing and upsetting experience at Whitechapel Post Office while attending an appointment for a DBS check.
I presented an HSBC bank statement as proof of address. The staff member informed me that it was a printed copy and therefore could not be accepted. However, the statement had actually been sent to me by HSBC through the post. To clarify the situation, I visited my HSBC branch, where staff confirmed that this is the standard format of bank statements they currently issue. They also provided a covering letter confirming that the statement was authentic and belonged to me.
I returned to the Post Office with the letter from HSBC, expecting the matter to be resolved. Instead, the staff member dismissed it and stated that he “didn’t care” about the letter. I found this response extremely unprofessional and disrespectful, especially considering that the letter had been issued by the bank specifically to verify the authenticity of the document.
What upset me most was not the refusal itself, but the way I was treated. The staff member spoke to me in a rude and dismissive manner in front of other customers, which left me feeling embarrassed and humiliated. At one point, he repeatedly stated that he had already explained the matter several times. I remained polite throughout the conversation and simply wanted to understand why an official confirmation from HSBC was being ignored.
Customer service staff should treat people with courtesy and respect, even when they are unable to accept a document. No customer should be made to feel belittled or dismissed when seeking assistance.
I hope management investigates this incident and takes appropriate action. Customers visit the Post Office for a service and deserve to be treated professionally and respectfully at all times.
