I went to this post office today at around 2:10pm, knowing it was closed for lunch from 1pm–2pm. When I arrived, the shutters were still down and there was no sign to indicate whether the lunch break was simply running late or if the branch wasn’t opening at all. Another customer was also waiting, just as confused.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had issues with this location. Last year, I came for several weeks in a row and it was consistently shut. When it finally reopened, I was told the closure was due to a family wedding. A few weeks later, the same thing happened again, closed day after day, with no explanation. I even asked neighbouring shops if they knew when it would reopen, and no one had any idea.
This month, I decided to give the post office another chance. It had been open regularly, until today. It’s incredibly frustrating that there’s never any notice posted online or even on the shutters to let customers know when the branch will be closed or for how long. A simple update would save people a lot of wasted time.
In the end, I had to walk to Mary Rose Mall post office in Asda, Beckton, where they have two staff members and are always reliable. Had I known this branch would be shut yet again, I would have gone straight there instead of making an unnecessary trip.

Absolutely stinks, the owner definitely smokes indoors, and the waits are always very long, there doesn’t seem to be any urgency from the owner what so ever

Service was fine when I went in on Tuesday afternoon. I found the man behind the counter quite rude though. The door was stiff and didn't close when I walked in. Despite the fact that there was no one in there and my transaction was quick, he ordered me to close the door before serving me. I said I could have done this on the way out, but he claimed that he was cold and needed to keep the heat in. It was a mild day and if he had been more polite, it wouldn't have seemed so bad, but his attitude wasn't nice. I suppose it depends on what you look like the way he speaks to people as he might have been different if I had been a 6ft tall geezer rather than a small older woman. The man who was in there for years was lovely and it is a shame he has now retired.
