I have had several unpleasant experiences at this post office, and I feel I should share them.
There is one lady who works there and another male staff member, and I have felt disrespected by both of them on multiple occasions.
The most upsetting incident happened when I was collecting a parcel that had been sent using a next-day delivery service. I received an email confirming that my parcel had arrived, so I went to the post office with the barcode from the email.
At first, they told me that my parcel was not there. Then they went into the back and discussed it between themselves before coming back to ask for my name. They checked again and still told me it was not there, saying that the barcode showed the parcel was at the shop instead. I asked them to check again because I was sure it had been delivered there. They repeatedly checked my ID several times. Finally, after taking my ID again and going back to look, they came out with my parcel. It made me feel as though they had not even looked properly in the first place or were deliberately making things difficult for me.
On another occasion, I went there just to make some photocopies. I was kept waiting for around 45 minutes without any clear explanation, even though it should have been a quick service.
After this happened repeatedly, I became frustrated and said that this was not the first
time I had been treated this way. I asked whether it could be because of the colour of my skin. The staff member replied, “Maybe, yeah, sometimes, maybe.”
That response shocked me and made me feel that I was being treated differently because of my race. I left feeling upset and discriminated against.
Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, regardless of their background or skin colour. I hope this post office takes this complaint seriously and improves the way customers are treated.
