The rule was quite clear: I could have used my passport even if it had been up to 18 months after expiry, let alone the situation where it was current. There was no doubt in my mind that this postmistress knew that perfectly well - and had refused because I had pointed out she had made a mistake. There is something quite wrong with this post office.
