Walked here for 20 minutes to send off an important document (wanted first class, signed for). Unfortunately had no envelopes at home - but assumed I’d be able to get one at the Post Office.
I arrived and explained what I needed to post, and specified I wanted to send first class, signed. She asked if I wanted to send this as special delivery (£6 more). I said no.
Lady behind counter then informed me they have no envelopes. I asked where I might be able to get some nearby, as I don’t drive. She said it “wasn’t her problem”. Then she decided they have some small postal bags, which I said was fine. But refused to add the amount for this on top of my postage, and told me I’d have to pay in cash (I hadn’t even made the transaction for the postage yet). I didn’t have any cash on me, nor a card to withdraw any.
She then told me I’d have to pay the extra £6 for special delivery as this includes a different envelope. I told her I’d just leave it. Thankfully a man in the queue gave the cash for the envelope (thank you to whoever you are, you saved my day).
Lady continued to talk to me in a rude, blunt, and unhelpful way. I also work in customer service, I truly believe it’s easy to speak to someone in a way you wish to be spoken to. I’m neurodivergent, and I explicitly explained what I was there for upon arrival, and was still being pushed to buy a more-expensive postage method, as well as being met with resistance for help with obtaining an envelope (something which feels should be simple at a place that literally specialises in sending mail).
I’ve used this post office before purely out of conceive of location; but the service is often slow with a large queue, and the staff can be unhelpful. The opening times are also inconsistent, as you may arrive to a sign stuck on the window saying they’ve closed early (something I’ve encountered in the past).
