I attended the branch with six envelopes to post (five A5 envelopes and one standard letter). After waiting in the queue for approximately 10–15 minutes behind five other customers, I reached the counter and was informed by the male staff member serving that I could not post more than three items at a time.
He told me that I would need to create an account for the drop-and-go service and that he would process my items “if he had time”. I moved aside and created an account as instructed. During this process, I asked him how much credit I should add to the account, explaining that five of the envelopes were identical. He told me he did not know and suggested I put £100 on the account. When I asked whether any unused funds would be refunded, he told me they would not. I later discovered that the total postage required would have been approximately £25, making the suggestion to deposit £100 seem unreasonable.
I then asked whether I could simply purchase stamps and post the items myself, as they would fit through a standard post box. He told me no. I also asked whether I could at least purchase a stamp for the standard letter, and again he refused.
The staff member then stated that he could process three items but that I would need to travel to another Post Office to send the remaining items. I said that I would do that. However, he then instructed me to return to the back of the queue. I explained that I had already waited in the queue, but he insisted that I queue again.
At this point, I felt that I was being treated unfairly and unreasonably. The interaction came across as dismissive and unnecessarily difficult, and I left the branch without posting any of my items.
I've made a formal complaint to Royal Mail.

What a disgrace. There is one Indian man trying to serve Hessle Road, but he cannot keep up with the flow.
