She made us teas and coffees to carry out to the picnic tables in teapots and mugs, rather than disposable cups. Good prices and a useful selection of snacks, fruit and veg etc. Worth stopping here on your way up or down the penine way even if its just for an ice lolly!

It was by far the most authentic and down-home experience of English hospitality I could have imagined. My room was comfortable and appointed with homey touches. The guest lounge on the third floor was like stepping into an honestly arranged living room - comfortably worn couches, personal decorations, and knick knacks. I learned the next morning that I was the only guest and so this lounge was an incredible personal refuge for the evening - quiet, homey, and peaceful. It was really neat having dinner and breakfast in the front room of the house on a perfectly arranged table, overlooking the village green. Pictures of Anne's family and of Garrigill lined the walls. Anne was an exceptional hostess - very welcoming, polite, engaging, and kind. "Regular'" B and Bs are nice, too, but if you'd like something unpretentiously genuine, the Garrigill Post Office Guest House comes highly recommended. Anne only likes to book one party at a time, so book early!
