It's truly dreadful.
Each time I have to visit the Bridge Street Post Office I am filled with dread. Usually there is a very long queue that moves exceptionally slowly, but my last two visits have taken the biscuit.
There is an older lady that works there with short, brightly coloured hair, looks a bit like Jo Brand if she were a lesbian. On my last visit, I arrived at about 5.10pm, there was a queue of around 15 people and instead of serving the customers she found someone she knew in there and just had a conversation with them. 10/10 for helpful.
Today, I visited and she was on the counter, so I knew my experience was going to be great. It was around 3pm this time I was one of about 12 customers in the queue; she served one, then got up out of her chair and walked out of the store. I didn't see her again. There was another guy serving in the cubicle, but he looked like he might have even been one of the customers who offered to help since he was standing there in his own hoodie rather than any kind of uniform. Just before I got served one of the customers in the queue actually turned to the others and asked if we knew if she was coming back!
The place itself rarely has working facilities (I'm looking at you, self service counters), the notices on walls are all hanging off the walls with sellotape and stuck on top of each other, the counter is littered with illegible point of sale, the 'Travel Money Here' banners they have hanging up are faded and I've just realised are at least six years old - there is even a LCD monitor attached to the wall showing adverts but it points away from the customers - I wonder if the people who paid for ads on there know?!
To be honest, it feels like a film set for a sitcom about the post office, although judging by the way this one works, that isn't necessary because it's a parody of itself at this point - How we went from a bustling, well organised city centre location with 40 people in there at lunchtime and a 5 minute wait, to a cupboard at the back of WH Smith, I'll never be able to work out.
1.7 star rating (at the time I write this) is a generous average. Go to another one if you can.
