They should not have untrained staff in charge of the post office counter. Unless you want to be overcharged or loose your items, I would go elsewhere.

Beyond terrible.
I visited the Post Office in Mauchline today and I will never return. The service was absolutely appalling, beyond useless and I was treated like a nuisance when I decided to give up and take my packages elsewhere.
I want to say, before I elaborate, that I do not blame the young man who served me. He had been left in charge of both the shop and the Post Office counter and clearly had not been trained in anything but the very basics when it came to the Post Office side. The fault lies with his manager, who was clearly watching from somewhere in the back as he dashed out as soon as there was a queue, but failed to provide his staff member with any assistance.
I wanted to post five packages - one Special Delivery and the others Royal Mail Tracked. The young man took ten minutes trying to figure out how to print the Special Delivery label. He tried his best, but clearly had no idea what he was doing. Still, he got there in the end.
When it came to the remaining parcels, he put the first through as First Class Signed For, a completely different service, then cancelled it and put it through as Royal Mail Tracked, but printed the label on the wrong sheet so only a third of it appeared on the paper. It excluded the QR code and the address - fairly important components.
After twenty minutes waiting for the second parcel to be processed, I decided to pay for the Special Delivery parcel and take the rest of my packages elsewhere. Unfortunately, the young man cancelled the entire transaction and then tried to persuade me to pay using a cash withdrawal. Of course, as the transaction had been cancelled he was unable to provide me with proof of postage, fairly important given the contents of the package was worth nearly £200, and so I ended up asking them to cancel the whole thing.
In came the manager. Instead of removing the labels from the Special Delivery package so I could be on my way, he insisted on standing there for another ten minutes typing in every number he could find on the labels in order to cancel them. This proved difficult given that his employee had already cancelled the transaction. More time wasted, this time due to a combination of incompetence and spite.
I don't care if I'm sending a postcard to Cornwall - if the Mauchline Post Office was my only option, I'd drive it down to Cornwall myself. Using this establishment again is simply not worth my time or stress.
