BUYER BEWARE!!! I would imagine the majority of customers utilize the UPS Store based on the name recognition. Have a package that needs delivered, that is what UPS has been doing for decades, I will go there. After what I learned today, I will be using the USPS from this point forward. And here is why.......I shipped a birthday present to my son in the Atlanta area. I shipped last Wednesday, would be there Friday for $13 and change. Friday night I received an unexpected package from UPS and when I opened it I found the gift I had shipped along with the crumbled up birthday card. These items were NOT in the box I had shipped them in, and taped to the box was my original return address label and apparently what remained of the original box. Easy to conclude the original was smashed or run over, based on the now accordined birthday card.
So today I take it back to the UPS Store with my receipt. The assistant manager, Angel, was very nice and agreed that obviously something had damaged the original box. She then informed me they could ship it again, in its new box, for another $13 and change. I was stunned.....I already paid you once to deliver as you promised, why would I pay a second time when we agree that UPS damaged the first one. And that's when you hear the coverall they operate under......"we are not UPS, we basically are a franchise that uses their name and logo".... On our sign, in our advertisements, on our business cards, on our name tags.....but we are not UPS nor responsible for anything after you drop it off to us. And also it is stated in the Terms and Conditions you signed.
So I requested she contact the manager, which she did, and the manager told her they would do it this time.....implying but not in the future! It is your lucky day Sir!!!!! What should have happened is the Assistant Manager apologizes for the failure of UPS and "we will ship it overnight" be offered. The majority of people accept that accidents happen, the problem occurs on the back end when the "we are not responsible" tactic is presented to them.
So this time when Angel was completing my order and the screen for Terms and Conditions appeared and she said " just hit the Scroll to the Bottom button and sign, I decided to stand there and read the Terms and Conditions before I signed. And what I came away with was this....I would NEVER ship anything of value or personal importance with the UPS Store. Because Angel was correct. The business you pay to provide a service for you is responsible for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!! Once you walk out the doors of the UPS Store it's a crap shoot as to wether you will be provided the service you pay for. And if they want to use the "we are just a franchise" defense, maybe they should work out with the REAL UPS to have a chargeback to them when they fail, not expect the customer to pay a second time and cross fingers and pray that this time it goes well.....but if it doesn't, no problem, our Terms and Conditions clearly state WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING! We use the UPS name and logo for name recognition purposes only, we are NOT really UPS.
Think about that the next time you have something of value (monetary or personal) and drive the extra 2 miles to the USPS. Can't believe I am endorsing the USPS with all the issues they have, but at least they acknowledge that they are.... responsible!!!!

Angel and the ladies at this store are amazing!
They handle whatever comes through the door with ease, efficiency and with a positive attitude. I needed some prints and a few items laminated and tuey were a huge help. I was in a pinch and short on time. Angel got to work on my items so quickly and made them look very professional. Thank you!
