- RCRae CookSep 11, 20255.0I had to mail an unusual package with high value, and switched from using FedEx, who twice in two months sent me no reception or tracking info for similar packages, to the UPS store on Ogletown-Stanton Rd in Wilmington, Delaware. The guy who helped me needed a lot of help himself, and that’s when I noticed a dynamic young dude moving at twice everyone else’s speed, assisting every worker, including mine. Here is his name, if I got it right: Thomas Polutri. He showed my worker how to wrap fragile musical instruments, calculated insurance costs, explained them, supervised my worker in packaging items, and even helped another group of workers by placating what could have been an angry customer by knowing that the customer’s documents were unusual but valid. All while smiling. I thought he was the manager, but Thomas turned out to be an equal to the other workers. He was as young as the other workers, yet vastly more skillful and motivated to solve problems quickly. I hope the store manager recognizes a prize like he has in Thomas. My worker definitely focused and he and others worked steadily, but they needed Thomas and couldn’t match him for customer engagement.

While getting me set up, they started discussing how it’s normal to tip your notary and how the past few people have given them $10-$20 each. I said that I had never heard of tipping a notary (in fact, I’m pretty sure it’s frowned upon and unethical) and they told me no, they get to keep all of their tips and continued talking about pretty high amounts like they were trying to solicit a tip out of me. I paid my $5 fee and left feeling VERY uncomfortable. I don’t really think this is a good way to conduct business and I’ll be getting my notary services elsewhere from now on.
