During my visit to the USPS office today, I experienced an interaction with an employee named Kim that was so unprofessional and hostile that it warrants formal escalation. I came in to complete an address change, which is a bit more complicated for me due to a recent legal name change. Two gentlemen were helping me, and they were kind, patient, and genuinely trying to navigate the process with me. While one of them was reviewing my documents, Kim abruptly inserted herself into the conversation and told him to stop helping me. She did this without assessing the situation or asking questions. My ID matches only one of the address changes I need, not the second one—but every other document I provided verifies the second address. I was going over acceptable forms of proof with the clerk when Kim overheard us and decided to intervene. She said, “No. Only driver’s license.” I pulled up the official USPS email I received and explained that I would return with my university ID since it is listed as an acceptable form of identification. She immediately shut that down again, repeating, “No. Only driver’s license.” I responded, “It literally says it in the email.” She did not appreciate that I wasn’t backing down, and her tone became noticeably rude and aggressive. I asked her directly, “Why are you being so rude?” and she absolutely lost it. She raised her voice at me in front of other customers and told me that I was the one being rude and that I was not listening. At that point it was clear she was not interested in helping anyone—she was simply antagonistic for the sake of it. I told her she should be nice to people, to have a better day, and to learn to treat people with respect. Then I attempted to leave. As I started walking down the hall, I could still hear her yelling about me and complaining to her coworkers—again, loudly, in front of other customers. At that point, I turned around because if she was going to continue escalating the situation, I wasn’t going to allow it to be one-sided. I walked back and confronted her behavior directly. I told her she had no reason to speak to me the way she did, that she was taking her anger out on people who had done absolutely nothing to her. I also told her that I am currently being evaluated for a possible cancer relapse, and that she has no idea what people are going through when she chooses to treat them cruelly. Her behavior was so extreme that another customer—who witnessed the entire exchange—ran outside after me to tell me that this is a known problem. They said Kim behaves like this regularly, and that most of the neighborhood avoids this location because of her. After hearing that, I checked the Google reviews myself and found that complaints about Kim have been happening for years without apparent correction. She is truly a menace to the public. Her hostility is beyond normal customer-service issues; she seems to be cruel to people for sport. I have already escalated this to USPS Headquarters and will continue doing so. No customer should be subjected to verbal aggression, public humiliation, or bullying by a USPS employee, especially when simply trying to complete a basic service like an address change. Kim’s conduct today was unacceptable, unprovoked, and deeply concerning.

Friendly and efficient passport service. We came prepared with all documents and as long as you’re organized, it should be just as easy.

This is the most unhelpful post office I’ve ever been to. The customer service is nonexistent and I’ve never had a successful transaction with this location. I went in asking for help with a mailbox issue and they couldn’t help me or tell me where to go for help even though when I called USPS they told me to come to my local post office. I just went again to ship a return and they wouldn’t lend me a single piece of tape to secure a label to the package. Maybe I should’ve brought some tape from home but I was really hoping I wouldn’t be charged for a tiny piece of tape just to make everyone’s day easier. There’s also a long wait whether 2 or 10 people are in line. :(

Passport walk-in hours are from 9:30 to 10am. I arrived at 8:30 am, was asked to put my name on a list and come back at 9:25. I had all of my required documents so Kim was able to help me quickly and efficiently at 9:30. She even checked to make sure I was good to go when I checked in at 8:30. There is a sign posted outside that says they only take 2 passport walk-ins a day, which is understandably frustrating if you arrive at 9:30 unaware of this policy.
