Windows adjoining the entry bay on both sides of the decorated facade composed of five symmetrical arches and enclosing iron spear gates, are topped with elaborate, round-arched surrounds. The east window is on the side of the Postmaster's room #100 and overlooks Colorado Blvd on the corner of Garfield Ave. The bell shaped dome of the Pasadena City Hall towers over the rooftops and is visible from the east side of the Post Office building. It took more than six locations and Postmasters for Pasadena to establish its main Post, and its intermediate history reveals an earnest search. The earliest one was an appointment of a postmaster on March 15, 1875, which at first did not take on, as mail deliveries customarily were a courtesy or volunteer work on the part of local residents. After a year and a half Henry Hollingsworth, whose father had opened a small store at 7 E. Colorado near Fair Oaks Ave, volunteered to act as postmaster, and the office was re-established on 9/21/1876 in the Hollingsworth store. When in February 1883 a new postmaster Barney (Romayne) Williams built his own store on Fair Oaks, known later as the Williams Hall Block, the post office moved again. This time it was considered "too far" by the original colonists and moved on March 1888 to South Raymond Ave in the Morgan Block. In 1906 the postmaster John Wood moved the post office north to N. Raymond and Holly Street, as land on S. Raymond was bought for the city's Central Park. The site on Colorado Blvd, suggested by Hollingsworth, was chosen for the cornerstone of the planned new Federal building on 5/16/1914 and the design was created by architect Oscar Wenderoth (10/10/1871-4/15/1938). The present Post Office was open for business on 9/17/1915, but a smaller version was also created by Wenderoth for La Junta, Colorado, where the Post Office was completed in 1916!

This is the Post Office building with the most aura I've ever been to, lol. The original building was designed in 1913, and a respectful addition, was built in 1938, and it shows. There are beautiful lighted stained glass ceiling tiles. The clerk that took care of me (Emilio? Edgar? Eduardo?) was incredibly friendly, polite, efficient and fast. Him and this great building gave this review the top score of 5/5 stars.

There was a long line, but they barely had just one counter open, during such a busy season. And she took out all of her stress on me! Honestly, the way she acted like a child was kind of funny. Poor person. 🥹 Please don’t take your stress out on customers—USPS needs to fix the system and make it better. They need to hire more people. We should better prepay and label. So just can do drop-off. I purchased the label printer after visiting here.

Retail window is… for some reason… closed “temporarily”. Only notice is a handwritten note on the door. Lame
