am writing this because the level of disrespect and lack of basic human empathy at the Montebello Post Office is absolutely staggering. As a resident of this city, it is disheartening to see a public office operated by individuals who seem to take pride in being a hurdle for the community they are supposed to serve.
My experience was a perfect example of this. My wife and I both took time off from our jobs to bring our 4-month-old daughter in for a passport appointment. Despite the office being nearly empty with no one waiting, a female Asian employee refused to see us due to a technical error with our confirmation. Even though we were there, on time, with an infant in tow, she wouldn't even consider helping us for a process that we later found out takes exactly three minutes.
When we returned a week later for our rescheduled time, I witnessed her, same female Asian employee, treat another family even worse. They had been told by a different staff member (a Black female employee) to wait and come back at 2:15 PM. When they returned exactly as instructed, this same Asian employee refused to even acknowledge their presence. She would not look them in the eye, would not answer their polite questions, and simply ignored them with a cold, straight face until they were forced to leave in total disappointment with their own daughter.
This employee’s personality is defined by a complete lack of remorse and a power-trip mentality. She uses 'rules' not to provide order, but as a weapon to give families a hard time. To make matters worse, there was another person there—an enabler—who stood by and watched this blatant disrespect happen without saying a word or stepping in to help.
It is a shame that in a community like Montebello, we have to deal with staff who refuse to do their jobs even when they are clearly not busy. Taking three minutes to help a family should be the standard, not something we have to beg for. This post office has terrible reviews for a reason, and it’s time management realizes that our city and our families deserve much better than this toxic, unprofessional behavior.
