I had a very disappointing experience at this UPS Store location near Redondo Ave and 7th St. I recently moved to Long Beach from the Bay Area and have used UPS Store locations for years without ever encountering treatment like this.
When I entered, I was not acknowledged and another customer who arrived after me was called forward first. When I mentioned that I had been waiting, I was told “the line is over there” and directed to stand where the other customer had been.
I came in simply to purchase a box in order to complete an Amazon return that required me to provide my own packaging. After waiting while an employee attempted to retrieve a box, another employee named Johnny assisted me and presented multiple charges, including packing supplies and labor that I did not request. I clarified that I only wanted to purchase a box. I was then told that even basic assistance such as taping the package would require an additional fee.
What made the situation more frustrating was that immediately prior to my interaction, I observed another customer receive assistance with taping their package without being charged. When I raised this inconsistency, Johnny stated that the assistance provided to the other customer was done as a “courtesy.”
The lack of consistent service, transparency, and professionalism turned what should have been a simple transaction into an uncomfortable and adversarial experience. Customers should be able to expect clear policies and equitable treatment.
I hope store management reviews this situation and ensures more consistent and professional customer service going forward.
