5 stars for initial review and staff(prior year)...updated experience new staff 1 star (today) (5 stars) Postmaster Judy Bartlett went out of her way to correct an error made by San Anselmo post office, and Nicoletta is always very helpful whenever I go into the Fairfax office. Huge improvement to prior experiences with some previous employees. Update 9/2024: (1 star) Went to Fairfax post office today to return a small package and there were two new staff, small package return in it's original package (earrings) to Canada, when I asked to do so, the woman said, oh you're going to have to fill out customs forms and this package is too small, you'll have to get a larger one, and make a new label...they're over there...to which I replied that it was the package they were shipped to me in?..then the woman on the other side who was helping the customer next to me, rudely interrupted with a scowl, (I wasn't even sure if she was speaking to me as I wasn't in a conversation with her and she blurted at me out of nowhere) ... something akin to 'that's what you need, etc'...excuse me, was I speaking to you? Does this post office go out of it's way to hire rude staff? Is it a prerequisite? So I said alright, if I repackage, (asked the original staff woman) what the shipping fee will be, and she said $17...(it cost $9 to ship from Canada, almost double the cost and they want me to fill out forms and buy larger package..these are stud earrings, not uzi's). I messaged the merchant and she sent a reply saying she'd never heard of that and that it's ridiculous... I've lived here for almost twenty years, and the sole time there were non-rude, competent employees at the Fairfax Post Office, as far as I experienced, (there may have been others), it was Judy and Nicoletta. There is a professional manner to speak to customers.. it was one thing that I had to fill forms and pay DOUBLE return ship fee, but don't interrupt a conversation to scowl to a simple query. We all have off days, but really. I wasn't being difficult in any way, just asking about what was needed and what the fee would be. I won't be using this office anytime in the future. UPS staff is extremely competent and helpful, (Ully, Anna, Jonathan and Trey, all are stellar, professional, and amiable even in overwhelmed, busy circumstances)....as are some other post offices. Edit: re initial issue prior year, the staff person @ San Anselmo actually called me to apologize which I very much appreciated.

I witnessed a person being turned away from the postoffice because they didn't get in their 'order' in before 4.30 - even though the post office closes at 5pm. They have some in-house policy to only conduct certain transactions before 4.30. So if you want to get anything done here that will take time make sure you get there before 4.30. I have NEVER seen anything like that in any other post office. Usually the practice is to close the line at the last person who comes in at 5pm, and then serve each person regardless of what service they require until all the customers are helped. I find the some of the staff at this post office unhelpful and unfriendly so I've started to go to another post office with better service.

Horrible customer service. They INTENTIONALLY do everything at a snails pace because they don't care about good customer service. Purchased a $600 money order. Gave them exactly $602 in cash. Lady at the counter tells me 'You have to count it in front of me' Explained to her I had already counted twice, asked her 'Don't you have to count it?" She says 'Yes, I will count it again after you count it' What planet did these people drop down from? Prime example of making such a simple transaction a headache inducer. The United States Postal Service should be ashamed of themselves for how they treat the public. Just awful

Horrible customer service over the phone with a mean postmaster. I had asked her if there was any chance a package had been delivered to the wrong address as I'd been waiting for it for 2 months, she snapped that my mail was handled by another office and immediately hung up on me. They are vastly under prepared for electronic payment in office during a time when people are trying to as clean as possible. If your chip doesn't work and you don't have cash, good luck.

Staff are impatient and rude, there is always a line out the door at the most inconvenient times.
