I stopped by this post office on a Saturday to buy stamps so I could mail out my Christmas cards. They close at 1:00 PM, and I arrived at 12:50 PM. There were about five people ahead of me in line, so I waited. After standing there for roughly five minutes, the clerk finally looked up and announced that she “wasn’t taking anyone behind the man with the pink bag,” and said she had told someone to let people know. Apparently, customers were expected to relay this information to anyone else who walked in. As someone who has worked in customer service, this was pretty disappointing. I’ve never worked anywhere that allowed staff to refuse service in this way, especially without clearly communicating it at the door. On top of that, her demeanor was unpleasant and dismissive. I understand that the holidays are busy, but that’s exactly why proper staffing and clear communication are important. This experience felt unprofessional and left a bad impression.

Today, October 24, 2025 (Friday), I was running up to the doors at full speed with a few packages in my hands that already had their postage and just didn’t fit in the after hours drop box. The time? 4:58pm. Yes, 2 minutes before closing. I realize I cut it close, I own that, but being that I simply needed to drop these off in the counter without needing any assistance from an employee, I didn’t feel quite as bad as I would if I were walking in asking for a time consuming or challenging ask. As I’m running up, I make eye contact with the woman who is starting to lock the doors. I mouth “Wait!!” And hold up my packages, and she just looks at me with a smirk on her face and shakes her head no at me and continues to lock the doors and walks away. I understand it’s a Friday and you want to go home, but you do not close at 4:58pm. I had 2 minutes. My task would have taken less than 30 seconds. I also understand that sometimes things happen and you have to close up early, but you could at least have avoided eye contact rather than shaking your head at me with a devilish smile on your face like you were happy to ruin my day. Laugh as I juggle my packages and run like an idiot toward the door. Honestly I know post office employees get treated poorly, but if you’re that miserable get a new job! I’ll be making a complaint, I’m sure they can find out who was working the closing shift.

They have always done a great job helping me with all my postal needs, both at the office and at my home. They are also bravely providing service during the covid 19 pandemic.
