PART 1 of 2 The trouble began when the Bodfish Post Office joined rural post offices across the country in refusing to deliver packages from Amazon. CNN has reported on this nationwide issue, and Amazon will confirm that it continues unresolved. Amazon uses its own delivery trucks elsewhere, but in rural areas they contract USPS. This puts a burden on USPS employees that I support them in protesting. Only there's been no protest, no forthright speaking to the public, no respect shown to our community, and finally, no regard shown for the law. These people solve their workplace problems by making them yours and mine, and have a mindset that says that's okay. They take the money but ignore the contract. They write us off as too lazy to do our own shopping, and think no better of our shared community than Amazon does. Ask questions and they'll show you that they hate you. The federal forms drying and curling in my now-always-open mailbox (pictured) say that USPS wants to "Reschedule Delivery" of packages whose tracking numbers are printed on both sides of the forms. These forms aren't summonses, but I've been penalized for not pretending they were. Where it says, "Sorry we missed you . . . ," I was expected to accept that I was out without knowing it and they brought my packages and were sorry. Why the packages were never sitting on my porch where someone paid to have them set, is something only a troublemaker would ask apparently. The law says the penalty for fraudulent use of a federal form is "a fine and/or up to five years' imprisonment". I'm humbled that the law should take me seriously. The law says people who interfere with my mail aren't fit to breathe the same air as me. I have no need to tell anyone that, the law exists to tell them for me. Or am I wrong and missing something? I can only say that in nearly three years, no one's addressed my questions. When a law isn't enforced, is it not saying anything to anybody anymore, except maybe victims? It's been nearly three years since I wrote Postmaster Alyce Nelson to ask how our situation pertains to the law. I'm still awaiting her reply. I've also complained to the OIG, lots of times. They relay my complaints to the people I complain about, and only them, for handling. My first complaint (against the post office generally, not naming anyone) was handled by Art Stillwell, USPS Santa Clarita. He wrote that he'd driven by my house that very morning, and ascertained that I had cut down the weeds blocking passage to my door, and could therefore expect delivery of my packages to resume. Which made no sense. No weeds exist, or have ever existed, on the hard earth between my driveway and my door. To my concern about the law, Mr Stillwell said, "18 US code Title 1703 . . . does not pertain [to] the Postal Service." That didn't convince me. I think it pertains to the Postal Service because it names them. It says, "Whoever, being a Postal Service employee, delays or detains any letter, package, or mail entrusted to him, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than FIVE years, or both." A later reason given for the non-delivery of my packages was that my driveway is unsafe. I disagree but that's irrelevant. On either side of my driveway are smooth flat paths, and it doesn't make sense for anyone not to use them. Before my mail delivery stopped alogether (I'll come to that), I traversed those paths six days a week without difficulty, though I'm disabled and often walk with a cane. Another reason given me, in an email with a photograph attached, was that my cluttered mailbox needed clearing out before my service could be resumed. It's true the box was cluttered, and still is, but only with forms my postal carrier failed to retrieve after I filled them out. In my complaint I had asked if he'd been instructed to remove them. (I've had to put Part 2 under Lake Isabella Post Office, which operates under the same management as the Bodfish Post Office and uses the same employees.)
