Probably the most frustrating experience I’ve ever had with the postal service so far in my 35 years of life. I moved here with the military and was receiving mail with no issues for about two months; then I was told my address was “undeliverable.” I had multiple packages sent back - some were gifts that I was only made aware of because the senders asked if I’d ever received them. They were all returned to sender and, when I attempted to intercept, I was told to fill out one form and then informed by another person that my items were already gone/fill out another form/go back to the post office AGAIN. I waited in the post office for a while before I finally asked if I could leave to attend to other errands that needed to be done prior to work the following day and receive a phone call instead. I am convinced the person working would’ve let me stand there waiting until closing time, because that’s how minimal the communication was. My experience here has been nothing short of discouraging, and the inconsistency of the information I’ve received makes me wish I had another option to receive mail at all. Communication here is poor, and I was never told upon moving here that my address was “undeliverable.” Other tenants have lived at my address before and received mail. Edit: I was told my mail was being held in the interim while I sorted out the address/shared mailbox issue, but NONE of my mail was held. Some of the items were incredibly sentimental, as my dog recently passed away and all of my friends and family are thousands of miles away. I have called countless times and nobody ever picks up the phone.

This must be the worst post office in the nation. Some of the clerks are the slowest and most ignorant people I've ever met. The longer the line gets the slower they work.

So the mailman comes by my business a couple months ago and tells me he's not supposed to deliver packages without a mail receptacle but "all I have to do is put one on the wall right there" and he's good. So I do that. Have a package delivered to the business address. I'm thinking great I don't have to go wait in line at the post office. The package gets redirected to post office. So I call and leave a voicemail saying "hey I have a mailbox at my business, please call me back and deliver packages." No call back. I order a package again. Same thing, redirected to post office - "no mail receptacle." So I got to the PO and wait in line. Nice lady, I tell her I have a mailbox now but still not getting mail. Great she says I'll give a note to the mail carrier - no problem. Order package again. Same thing happens. I go to the PO again and wait in line again and talk to another nice lady who informs me mailboxes have to be "inspected" by the manager who is about to leave for the day at 3pm but she caught her just in time and the manager Patty or Sally will inspect it the next day. OK great I think, I can get mail now at my business. I get a call on inspection day from the manager who wants me to describe my mailbox, which I do. She says it doesn't sound like an 'authorized mailbox' - I tell her I ordered it on Amazon, I'm sure it will be fine, it's mounted by the door. Nah she says, it would have to be by the curb. Only downtown and valley business grandfathered in for to the door delivery. I'm thinking, huh? Really? The mail carrier didn't mind - he's the one that told me to mount it by the door. "Oh I'm sorry you got bad information. You should have called us." Uh, I did, didn't get a call back. Oh I'm sorry." Basically you have to comply with a set of rules that the mail carrier doesn't know about and jump through a bunch of hoops in order to give them your business. I'm sorry but this isn't 1984 and USPS isn't the only game in town that can deliver what we order from the Sears Wish Book. UPS and FedEx will deliver to my door - mailbox or no mailbox. But I'll let the USPS continue to deliver my junk mail. 2021 Update: I've had a couple occasions where my employee selected street address for a shipment that the shipper sent via USPS. After leaving a negative review now the Juneau USPS returns it to sender so I have had to have it re-sent to home address. The best solution to fix USPS is for the Federal government to sell it to Amazon.
