  In 2021 I was LEASED a Samsung S21. I never agreed to a lease (well, technically I did because I signed the paperwork). I had never leased before. I always made it a purchase plan, and it never exceeded $103. Leases are supposed to do the consumer a favour by paying less per month, much like with cars. It was not at all properly explained to me by the red-headed Bell rep who reminded me of Dwight from The Office, as far as personality went. I can't imagine I'd agree to be on the hook for $640 or so after 2 years, if I decided to keep the phone.. I paid $103/month for that two year plan. I'm not sure exactly what it was I was paying $103/month for, given it works out to almost $2,500 over a two year period. Assuming the phone was somehow worth $1,400 (a quick Google search implies that's what it was worth brand new), subtract $640. that means I would be paying $71/month for the service itself, excluding the lease. Since parts of Red Deer barely have data accessibility (sometimes zero, like parts of West Lake), that's borderline consumer fraud that comes straight from head office. Regardless, one month before I was to return the phone, it was lost (I had an amazing year eh?), which meant I was on the hook for that bill. I won't say which store told me this, but a rep at another Bell store told me they had to fix a bunch of problems generated by this particular location. Folks, I can't stop you from shopping here, or anywhere else. But be HYPER aware of what you're signing up for. Make sure you know it's a lease. Ask as many questions as possible. I wish I had. The Bell store I got my current phone from was super helpful with everything. And for some reason, my S23 buyout is around $350. Weird. (my bill is also lower, but I think that's because all carriers had to lower their prices by that time)
