Then, I wrote a short story that ended with the line, "The thing about storms is - they end." Well, if my storm is going to end, I need to get out into the sunshine. On a recent sunny day, I looked in the mirror and realized that I should get a haircut and stop looking like a neanderthal. Google Maps gave me a long list of options. The reviews talked about fantastic stylists, people great with kids or expertise with various types of hair. I don't have any style, I haven't been a kid for half a century and no one specializes in awkward bald spots. I just need a cut without any fuss and for a reasonable price. How about Great Clips? The salon is in a shopping area that I have been to before, but I have never noticed it tucked away on the edge with its own parking. There were no spots in front, so I parked in the next row over and prepared myself to wait in line for a while. I don't know where all the cars came from, because there was only one customer inside. A woman came over right away and typed all my information into a computer. Then, we went to her chair and I tried to describe the simple cut I was looking for. She asked a few questions and nodded her understanding of what I wanted. I'm not big on chatting while I get a haircut. There were a few polite questions that I answered briefly. She understood and went to work without finding out about my kids or what I was doing today. In a few minutes, I went from a scraggly caveman to a well groomed older man. She held up a mirror that I should have used to check the cut, but all I saw was my bald spot. Note to self - sit next to walls to show the hair I still have in front. I paid $33 including tip. Not cheap, but I'll get plenty of enjoyment from it.
