The stylist I had, Sylvia, was absolutely wonderful but the salon needs to do something about late arrivals who've made appointments and then show up 15 to 30 minutes late! These rude and disrespectful clients don't seem to understand or care that these women can't afford to turn them away and will seem them and these clients don't care who they inconvenience.

I have been a long-time customer of this Hair Cuttery location for years, back when I worked just one block away. I regularly came in for a wash and blow-dry and was always charged around $31. My hair length, thickness, and style have not changed — it is shoulder-length.
Because I had a special event to attend on Saturday, I called ahead to confirm pricing. I was told the service was still $31, with an additional $12 charge for long hair.
When I arrived, i was told that I would be charged extra $12 for long hair. Although my hair is only shoulder-length, I was told the total would be $43, which I accepted and sat in the chair.
However, the service itself was noticeably lacking compared to what I have consistently received here for years. Normally, my blow-dry includes finishing with a curling iron and hairspray — neither was offered or used this time, despite me clearly explaining that I was attending a formal event and needed my hair to look polished.
At checkout, I was shocked to be charged $60 for a simple wash and straight blow-dry — nearly double what I had been charged for years and $17 more than the maximum price I was quoted both on the phone and before the service began. No explanation was provided for this additional charge.
I expressed my concern to the cashier, explaining that the price was far higher than expected and that the quality of the service did not justify it. Unfortunately, nothing was done to address this.
Being quoted $31, then $43, and ultimately charged $60 is unacceptable. The pricing was inconsistent, the service quality has significantly declined, and the increase feels unjustified. I am requesting a partial refund to reflect the price that was originally quoted and the reduced level of service provided.
Very disappointed to see prices increase by nearly 50% while service quality has gone down. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location.

It felt like I was a little girl stepping into a hair salon from another place and time – one where magic still happens in the swirl of a cape and the snip of scissors.
The salon itself looks like any other at first glance, but the moment you cross the threshold, everything changes. There’s a warmth here that wraps around you, carried on the most delicious scents of high-quality products and an unmistakable note of genuine kindness. In a city full of rushed appointments and conveyor-belt haircuts, this place feels like a quiet rebellion of care.
And then there is Silvia.
Dear Silvia – you are pure artistry in motion. The way you both listened, the way your hands moved with such confidence and grace, the little details you caught that no one else ever notices… I left not just looking better, but feeling truly seen and spoiled in the best possible way. You turned a simple haircut into something close to a ritual of renewal.
I’ve been to salons all over DC, but I’ve never walked out feeling this light, this happy, this perfectly polished. You are masterful, and I’m already counting the days until I can sit in your chair again.
Thank you for reminding me that a great haircut isn’t just about the hair – it’s about the heart behind the shears.
