I came in specifically to visit Sephora and attempted to enter my Sephora account information at the checkout. The young lady behind the counter informed me that the rewards system on the machine was not working and instructed me to enter my details into a handheld device instead. During this process, she asked for my name, phone number, and date of birth. I immediately asked if I was being signed up for something, and she assured me that I was not. She explicitly stated that my Sephora account was simply being updated. However, shortly after completing the transaction, I received a text message welcoming me to the Kohl’s membership program, something I had not consented to or requested. I feel deeply misled, as I did not come into the store to provide my personal information to Kohl’s. I came specifically for Sephora and had no intention of enrolling in any Kohl’s program. I explicitly asked the associate about this and feel that she blatantly lied to me in order to solicit my information. I do not appreciate these deceptive solicitation tactics and find it unacceptable that my personal information was used in this manner without my clear and informed consent.
