I just went in and had an AWFUL haircut. I'm so disappointed. Fortunately, reading the reviews, this was an anomalous experience. It was my first time, but will also be my last at this place. I would be a fool to return here...
At the beginning there were signs that whoever was cutting my hair just wasn't focused, wasn't really paying attention and was kind of just going through the motions.
"What's your name?" "AJ" "and you do you spell that? "A.....J" - they weren't looking at me, they were looking at the register. This reluctance to be personable was a clear sign that no attempt would be made for the haircut to be catered towards my request.
I sit down and I show them a picture of the haircut I want. A picture of me, with that hair. I emphasized I wanted to comb my hair to the side, with a side-part, no sideburns, and a slight fade on where my sideburns would be. Something gentlemanly, not a fade, and definitely not too short. This is nothing fancy, nothing out of the ordinary, no special dyes, no unusual hair types, this is far from rocket science too.
They begin cutting my hair and they take the sideburns to 0 all the way up - leaving little room for a fade there and then turn me around so that I'm facing away from the mirror and towards the center of the floor. I felt the electric razor go up the back of my head and I was confused to why this person was taking a razor to a job that required scissors. I was hoping they were using a long guard, but when the back and sides are done I'm turned around and I have a complete skin fade....this is not what I asked for at all, and nothing like the picture. I asked if they understood it - again, a reluctance to be personable. Maybe they had better things to do and didn't want to cut hair at that moment, if I was interrupting something you should've let me know! Trust me, if you don't want to cut my hair, I DEFINITELY don't want you cutting my hair either.
The hair on top was trimmed, but I had to stop them and say 'this is too short, this is not what I asked for,' and I emphasized trimming the top so that I can get as close to what I asked for as I can. Why is remedying the situation a focal point that I had to bring up? Why did I have to interrupt the barber from just continuing to wreck havoc on my head in order to slow them down and make them focus.
Then, we went up to the register where I was given an apology again but wasn't really offered a discount or anything. At the time I wasn't looking for one, I was just hoping to get out of there, but at $31 to get the opposite of what I wanted? That's offensive. I'm not going to a restaurant and ordering a steak, paying for a steak, and I'm eating chicken? This was not a $31 product, this was not the product I was looking for at all - this was something Sports Clips could've done. Why am I paying $31 for something I can get elsewhere for $10?
I should not have to explain to a hairdresser that people should leave their establishment feeling more confident, feeling fresh, feeling a bit more put together - not feeling embarrassed, not looking in the mirror and feeling regret.
I just don't understand - I appreciate the apology when I told them it was too short and not what I asked for but they didn't even attempt to remedy the situation. It was just "Yeah, I screwed up, would you like to leave a tip?" There was of course no tip.
