I've been an Aveda customer for over a decade but will no longer shop in store here. The last few visits I had were extremely uncomfortable. I was invited to come into the store for a complimentary facial and hand and scalp massage for my birthday. When I got there, the manager was the only one working and seemed stressed. I brought a gift card with me to spend on a bunch of new product and made that clear from the start, but had questions about the products. He passed over me to work with other customers who arrived after me. I wasn't offered any advice other than "you need to use the whole system to get the benefits" which is fine, but then help me find something that will work for me?? The vibe I got was that I was not important as a customer because I was not an old white rich lady. I went excited to be pampered, I left feeling about 2 inches tall and with a bunch of product I didn't want and ultimately gave to someone else because I didn't want to go back. I also had to remind him of the gift with purchase offer -- I spent over $300 and wouldn't have even gotten the free gift if I hadn't pulled it up on my phone. Ugh.

I can honestly say that the experience I had at about 3pm on 6/11 was probably one of the more disappointing experiences I had at any Aveda store ever. I came in to redeem a birthday certificate and while there were no other customers and four ladies behind the counter, I was greeted with a question more akin to "what are you doing here?" rather than "how can I help you?"
I mentioned the birthday certificate, which was for a "sensory journey and a complimentary bottle of oil." My "journey" consisted of being asked to choose between four bottles and upon doing so, was handed a bottle and a small card that told me how to use it and was promptly dismissed. It took all of less than two minutes in the store, and I truly felt as though I wasn't wanted anymore.
I haven't had a negative experience like that at any point before so to feel so dismissed without even a "happy birthday" or even any attempt at telling about new products or how to use the gift I had been given felt like a matter of "here's your gift, now go away." I will continue to shop there, as I know the store is usually not like that, but for being offered to "celebrate" my birthday with a product I love, I was disappointed.
