This review is specifically for Biljana
I have spent weeks deciding whether to write this review because I genuinely hoped I would eventually get over what happened. I haven’t. Every time I look in the mirror, I am reminded of one of the worst salon experiences I’ve ever had.
I walked into this appointment with healthy hair that was well past my shoulders. I wasn’t asking for a dramatic transformation. I wanted a simple shoulder-length lob. I brought inspiration photos. I clearly explained what I wanted. More importantly, I repeated myself multiple times because keeping the length was the most important part of the haircut to me. I specifically said I wanted it right above my shoulders—not at my chin, not a short bob, but a shoulder-length lob.
Somehow, despite all of that, I walked out with inches of my hair gone.
I was in complete shock. I honestly didn’t even know what to say while I was sitting in the chair because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The haircut was nothing like what I had asked for. It wasn’t even close. You cannot “fix” a haircut when too much hair has been cut off. Hair doesn’t get glued back on. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
And the haircut itself wasn’t even good. This wasn’t just a case of it being shorter than I wanted. It was poorly executed. It wouldn’t lay right. It wouldn’t style the way it should. I couldn’t wear it down because I hated how it looked. The only thing I could do was pull it back every single day to hide it.
I cried over this haircut more than I ever imagined I would cry over hair. People love to say, “It’s just hair. It’ll grow back.” But that completely ignores how personal hair is and how long it takes to grow inches back. It takes months—sometimes over a year—to recover from a haircut this drastic.
The timing made it even more heartbreaking. My birthday was only a few days later. Instead of feeling excited to celebrate, I didn’t even want to go out to dinner because I was so embarrassed by my hair. The following weekend, I had a family gathering where I spent the entire time feeling self-conscious. Then we left for our family vacation, where I avoided pictures because I hated how I looked. Those are memories I don’t get to redo. You can’t simply reschedule birthdays, vacations, and family milestones because your hairstylist ignored what you asked for.
Looking back, I also feel like I wasn’t being listened to during the appointment. Much of the one sided conversation centered around politics, immigration, and personal stories. While conversation is normal in a salon, I left feeling like more attention was being given to talking than to actually listening to my requests and cutting my hair with care. When someone is holding scissors next to your head, listening should be the number one priority.
Yes, I received a refund. But a refund doesn’t even begin to make this okay.
The refund didn’t give me my hair back.
It didn’t give me back my birthday.
It didn’t give me back the confidence I lost.
It didn’t erase the tears I cried.
It didn’t give me back the family photos I never wanted to be in.
It didn’t fix my vacation memories.
It certainly didn’t undo months of waiting for my hair to grow back.
Money can reimburse a service. It cannot reverse the consequences of that service.
I trusted this stylist with something that was incredibly important to me. Instead, I left feeling ignored, embarrassed, and deeply disappointed. This wasn’t a minor trim that was an inch shorter than expected. It was a dramatic departure from what I had clearly requested multiple times.
I cannot recommend someone who failed to listen to repeated instructions about something as basic as the length of a haircut. If preserving your length matters to you, I would strongly encourage you to think carefully before booking.
