I visited the West Grove location to purchase two skincare products. When I approached the checkout area, there were no employees at the registers and no customers in line. The area was completely empty, with nothing to indicate where to stand. I was looking at my phone for coupons in the Sephora app and, without realizing it, stood on the employee side of the register. An honest mistake.
An employee then yelled at me. The first time, I did not even understand she was speaking to me, because it never occurred to me that a client would be addressed that way. She yelled a second time, loudly enough to draw the attention of the other employees, as if I were being accused of stealing. I calmly explained that I had simply stood on the wrong side by mistake, and instead of acknowledging it, she looked at me with disbelief and dismissiveness.
I was wearing a summer dress and sandals, carrying only my phone to pay with Apple Pay. I was a client standing at an empty register, ready to pay, and I was treated like a suspect. I completed my purchase, but I left feeling publicly humiliated over an innocent mistake.
The product selection is good, but the way clients are treated matters more. I expect far better from Sephora.

All the staffs here are Very friendly and really helpful... I forgot to ask the name of the person who applied the product on my face and guided me to pick the right one. All I know is she was the tallest in the store. Glad I went to this particular branch. Highly recommend 👍🏾

Staff was so helpful! Tyler was very sweet
The people that work at this location really need to go to cosmetology school, they have no idea what they are recommending. They need to hire people with knowledge when it comes to skin care and other products. Also my big turn off is having men that work there wearing makeup and then trying to help me on my own products, what do they know about aging skin or anything about what a woman needs when it comes to makeup, it’s like going to Victoria secret and a man is measuring me for my bra size. I am so not comfortable with this and neither are my friends. We are going to another location from now on. For the woman that work there, they need training not everyone knows skincare but if I am asking for help with a particular product they should know and not me trying to guess. This is why I stopped going to MAC and now Sephora is doing the same crap.
I visited Sephora around 4 PM after stopping by Whole Foods Market next door. The store had several new staff, and I felt uncomfortable with security closely watching my shopping bag.
At checkout, we were redirected to the back, and the cashier seemed disengaged and frustrated. During a birthday perk interaction, an unsolicited skincare suggestion was made in a way that felt inappropriate and unnecessary.
Overall, the experience felt unprofessional. Staff would benefit from better customer service training.
