I came into L’Occitane after visiting another store that had fragrances, and I specifically walked in because I wanted to purchase some of their hand creams. I was greeted when I entered, but unfortunately, the interaction that followed left me very disappointed. I had a few fragrance strips in my hand and politely asked if there was a trash can where I could throw them away. An older female employee pointed toward the food court and said, “There’s trash cans over there.” She then proceeded to ask, “Well, are you going to buy anything?” That comment honestly hurt and made me feel very uncomfortable. I had already walked into the store intending to purchase something, but even if I hadn’t been planning to buy anything, do I really need to make a purchase to throw away a small piece of paper? The comment and the way the situation was handled felt completely unnecessary and unwelcoming. Thankfully, the manager, Yaz, completely changed the tone of my experience. Yaz was kind, welcoming, and helped point me in the direction of the testers. I really appreciated her willingness to help and make me feel more comfortable in the store. When I went to the counter to make my purchase, I explained how the earlier interaction made me feel and let them know that I didn’t appreciate the situation. When I explained that I felt the comment about having to buy something, as well as being directed to the food court trash cans, was ridiculous and unnecessary, the same employee responded, “Well, yeah.” That response only made the situation more disappointing, as there didn’t seem to be any acknowledgment of why the interaction was upsetting. I ultimately did make a purchase, but I left feeling conflicted. I appreciate Yaz for turning my experience around and providing the welcoming customer service I expected. However, I hope management addresses situations like this because customers should feel welcomed and respected when they walk into a store—whether they are browsing or making a purchase.

Passed through the weekend of May 10. Walked in, asked the saleswoman for a product since I knew what I was looking for. I guess I used too many words because she immediately stated in a rude tone, “I heard you.” She pointed me toward the product, my mother stated that it was expensive for what it was (she was speaking to me, not the saleswoman), and the saleswoman chimes in, again with a rude tone, “Well if you want quality…” We left as I wasn’t interested in purchasing from someone who was rude from the first moment of interaction. Not sure what her name was (she didn’t say prior to being unpleasant and I didn’t ask after) but I did see her working again on Monday May 10 at 9AM.
