WARNING: She cut 3-4 inches off my hair when all I asked was for my ends to be clipped. Her explanation was that she gave me “a blunt cut” because she decided to make it even all over.
My hair was purposely cut in layers before I arrived there and my ends weren’t so bad that they needed even an inch cut, never-mind 3-4 inches. I can now barely pull it back into a ponytail. Smh
I went for a shampoo, blow-dry, and clipped ends and came out totally different because the hairstylist refused to listen and did what she preferred. I should’ve known when the place was practically empty on a weekend. Smh.
This wasn’t my first bad experience there. My first one was someone who left my roots damp after blow-drying me, and I didn’t realize it until I got home. Smh. So, when I went there again, I asked for someone else, which obviously didn’t help.
Years ago, I went to another of their locations in the same metro area and got burned three times and a hairstyle completely opposite than what I asked for. I had to go home and wash it out. All I asked was for it to be flat-ironed straight with just a bend on the ends. I left with Shirley Temple/pin curls all over my head.
Why is it so hard for hairstylists to simply listen? I gave it three tries with three different stylists at two different locations in the area and it's the same thing. They sabotage themselves and cost us setbacks and burns. They just do what they want, then have the nerve to stand around and wonder why they don't get the traffic and repeat customers they could. I tried JCP for the convenience because I don’t have to make an appointment. But obviously, there is nothing convenient about it. It’s like they’re told to not listen to their customers (or maybe just the Black ones).
We work too hard and put up with too much at our jobs to give it to people who don’t care or listen. Women take the time to grown their hair and save for what they want only to end up having to start over again growing it and be overcharged (because they all charge you what they want). It’s even worse when we are Black.
You deserve better than JCP. My three experiences should be enough for you to stay away.

I booked an online appt for myself and my daughters and got a $270 price and walked out with a $400 bill. The stylists offered me services like “trim” and “deep condition” without telling me these were add-ons.
During the appointments, stylists recommended additional services including deep conditioning treatments and trims. While I agreed to the recommendations because they were presented as necessary for our hair care, I was never informed that these services would significantly increase the final cost. At no point was updated pricing discussed or approved before the services were performed.
What made the situation more concerning was the unprofessional communication among staff during the appointment. One stylist openly criticized another stylist’s recommendations and implied that unnecessary charges were being added because my daughters’ hair textures were more difficult to manage. I was also encouraged to bypass the salon’s booking system and contact a stylist directly for future appointments. This created confusion and made me uncomfortable as a customer.
When I questioned the bill, I was met with hostility and they said, “Well, the prices are online.” This was my first and last time visiting this salon. Oh, and my daughters’ hairstyles didn’t last 2 days.
