    I visited Sephora at Kohl’s this morning and initially had a great experience. Emma was very helpful and took the time to help me find the correct concealer match for my skin tone, which I really appreciated. Unfortunately, the experience changed afterward. When I got home, I realized the concealer was missing from my bag. I called the store and was told the item had been found at the counter and that I could return with my receipt to pick it up. I drove back after retrieving my receipt, only to find out the concealer had never actually been rung up. I didn’t mind paying for the item, but I was disappointed that there was no acknowledgment of the inconvenience of making two extra trips. I also felt uncomfortable during the interaction and overheard comments about me being made to another coworker, which felt unprofessional. Mistakes happen, but empathy and professionalism matter. What started as a very positive shopping experience ended up being disappointing, and unfortunately I don’t plan to return to this location.

    I had a very uncomfortable experience during my visit on 4/22. I’ve been shopping here for years and have never had any issues with other staff at Sephora, which is why this stood out so much. An older staff member with short white or blonde hair closely watched my son and me in a way that felt excessive and unnecessary. My son was helping me by holding makeup sponges and the blue makeup remover liquid so I could wipe off eyeshadow I was testing. Even after I explained this, she told him not to touch anything and said “it’s not toys.” Her tone and overall attitude came across as rude and dismissive, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. The interaction made me feel singled out as a parent shopping with a child. Because of this, I ended up leaving without purchasing the eyeshadow I had planned to buy. It was disappointing to feel unwelcome as a long-time customer, especially since I’ve always had positive experiences with other staff. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures all customers are treated with respect.

    I went to return some purchased items with a receipt, and my experience was very disappointing. When I approached the employee, there was no greeting at all. I noticed that another customer behind me, who was white, was greeted normally, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. When I said I needed to make a return, the employee responded rudely, asking, “All of them? What is the reason?” I explained my reason and even offered to point out which items were opened versus unopened, but she dismissed me and said they all needed to go into “damaged.” I asked if that meant I couldn’t return them, and she replied, “No, I’m just doing my job,” in a dismissive tone. She then proceeded to open all of the items and mark them as damaged, even the ones that were clearly unopened. During this process, I felt judged, discriminated against, and frankly that the treatment came across as a little racist. Another employee came over and asked again why I was returning the items, and after I explained my reason, she also shook her head, which made the situation even more uncomfortable. The first employee then said, “Oh, I’m checking all of it,” in a way that made it seem like I had done something wrong. Overall, the interaction made me feel uncomfortable, disrespected, and unfairly treated.
