The first two times after this location reopened, I had good experiences. The last two were very poor. Back last month, I visited and was paired with a stylist who seemed rather new to the job. I typically get a simple haircut with clippers: one size on top, another on the sides and back. She was going a bit too fast, missing areas on the top of my head. So I asked that she go back over those, after she finished using the larger size on the top and had moved to the smaller size on the sides. She neglected to change out the clipper guard, so I ended up getting the shorter side everywhere. I let it slide and went home, just to find there were some pretty long hairs on the top of my head she missed. I was frustrated, and awkardly cut them with my beard trimmer in the mirror. I chose not to leave a review or contact the manager at that point, just chalking it up to the stylist having a bad day. I decided to give the location another chance over the weekend, hoping I might get one of my original stylists that had done a good job...but instead, only the same poor-experience stylist was running the shop all alone. When I pulled up, I noticed her and briefly thought about turning around and leaving. But I decided to give her another chance, assuming, again, she just had a bad day last time. Unfortunately, same as before, she went too fast and really seemed unsure of herself the entire time. She'd spend significant time in one area, then barely touch the others. This time, I chose to direct her more, noticing that she had skipped whole areas of the top of my head before moving to the sides. Also with how low her line was when going around the sides. I asked her to go over areas again and directed her on how to use the clippers to go at multiple angles, not just with the grain. This is literally something I've never done in my lifetime - stylists tend to know what they're doing, but she seemed like she had really missed on training. While I sat, I noted that no license for cosmetology was posted at her station. I seem to recall always seeing that at every salon I've visited. Anyway, when I got home, I noticed she had gone too fast around the ears (an area where I should have directed her but didn't), missing a few tufts of hair sticking down. Beard trimmer to the rescue again. I looked further, and there were flyaway hairs all along the sides of my head that I figure I'll simply live with for another couple weeks until it's time for another cut. Just a really poor experience that took about 25 mins and didn't even get the job done properly. I've been used to 12-15 mins in the chair for years (really, my cut is incredibly simple for trained stylists!!). Still, I tipped her $5 for her time and wished her well, but I hope that my redirection to her helped in some way. At this point, I think I might go to the location again, but actually turn around and leave if I see this stylist working there. She was all alone on this visit and I'm worried she's being trusted far too much in making a positive experience for customers (especially after seeing some of the reviews, as I prepared this one). My question to management: are your staff properly trained and licensed? This feels like a big miss and I worry your shop may not last much longer.
