We’ve reimagined a better ear-piercing experience to help you get the look you want, stress-free.
We offer ear piercings with needles (never piercing guns!) for better precision, safety and healing, as well as a wide assortment of cute, high-quality piercing jewelry options at a range of prices.
I got a helix piercing at Studs Flatiron on April 20, 2024, and it became one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
This wasn’t a cheap piercing. I paid $50 for the piercing fee, $95 for a 14k gold Trinity Ball flatback, and tipped 20% on top of that because I expected a professional service and experience. The piercing appeared crooked and never healed properly. Over time, it developed a large bump behind the jewelry and became increasingly swollen, painful, and irritated.
When I returned to Studs to have it evaluated, the employee who examined it told me the bump was normal and advised me to continue using saline and give it more time. I trusted their advice and followed the aftercare instructions exactly as directed.
Instead of improving, the piercing continued to get worse. The most frustrating part is that I didn’t ignore the problem. I specifically went back to the studio because I was concerned. I asked for help. I followed the guidance I was given. I trusted the professionals who performed the piercing.
By February 15, 2025, nearly 10 months after getting pierced, I accompanied a friend to another piercing studio. Before my friend was even pierced, her piercer noticed my ear and immediately expressed concern about the condition of my helix. They offered to remove it on the spot, free of charge, because they felt it was causing unnecessary pain and should not have been left in for so long.
After almost a year of discomfort, the piercing was removed. What should have been a simple helix piercing resulted in months of pain, repeated follow-up visits, additional expenses, permanent scarring, and a deformed ear that still doesn’t look the same today.
To make matters worse, when I later stopped by Studs Flatiron seeking some form of resolution, the store manager refused any compensation and showed little sympathy for the situation. I understand that not every piercing heals perfectly. What I cannot understand is being told everything is normal when there are obvious complications, only to end up with permanent scarring and a piercing that ultimately had to be removed.
The attached photos show only part of what this experience was like. If you’re considering a cartilage piercing, I would strongly encourage you to think twice before trusting Studs Flatiron.

I am a loyal studs customer and get all of my piercings at studs locations across the country. This training location seems to be hit or miss. I had a very bad experience with my piercer who took over 45 minutes to give me a conch piercing. I have a conch on my other ear that healed smoothly, but after my conch from this location I have had incredible pain, recurring bleeding, and the jewelry does not lay straight in my ear - like it was pierced at an angle. The flatback lays against my head where my nose meets my scalp/hairline and is so close to my actual head. It is super uncomfortable and I have had a very difficult healing process because of this. I tried to be patient and understanding during the piercing process, but was nervous the whole time based on her professionalism. I ended up with a piercing in a sensitive area pierced wrong and am now having bad healing and pain. I hope that eventually it will heal - but because of the angle it was pierced the jewelry will never sit flat/straight.
