Horrible shopping experience. I don't write reviews at all, this would be my first. I was so shakened up from what happened, in fact im still pretty distraught from this, so I felt it was necessary to share my expierence at this location. I came in yesterday, July 17, after work to purchase 2 body washes and 2 concealers. I quickly notice nothing is ever in stock here, forcing you to ask for help, but no one is available. You are left waiting until associates stop their conversations. As a Hispanic woman shopping at this location, where the clientele is predominantly white from what I seen, I guess to them I stood out like a sore thumb.
I found the body washes and went to find the concealers. That's when things took a turn. At the Tower 28 stand, I swatched shades on my hand and looked back and forth at my phone to check the Sephora app for more info, which almost everyone does. I couldn't find my shade, but as I looked closer, I felt a presence. I looked up and saw a man, either a beauty associate or security guard, standing at the end of the makeup aisle.
A customer approached him for help in the same aisle, but his eyes remained fixated on me and what I was doing. He spoke into his headset to call for assistance for the customer, letting me know he was security. I thought to myself, "Well, I also need help so let me wait for help to arrive and once they are finish with her, I will then ask for help myself." After a few moments, I decided to find an employee and found three of them chatting. After waiting for them to finish, I asked if a certain shade was in stock. One came to help, but as we walked back to Tower 28, I noticed the guard tracking my movements with his eyes, as if to ensure I wasn't stealing. The employee checked the drawer and told me it was out of stock.
I moved on to Saie. Instead of searching the floor, I asked an employee for directions. As I walked away, something told me to look behind me. The same guard had left Tower 28 just to follow me. We made eye contact, and he pretended to look around. I was able to find an employee where they informed me where Saie was. Went to the Saie section and after a couple seconds, to my left, there he was again. Every makeup section I went to, he was right there in the aisle watching me. I was in disbelief and visibly upset. Trying to shop and swatch shades while someone is practically breathing down your neck turns a fun relaxing experience into pure anxiety and stress. Being treated like a thief completely ruins the experience.
The Saie shade was also unavailable. I grabbed the tester, found an associate who confirmed it was out of stock, and went back to return it to its original location. As this was happening, the guard moved in my direction, then abruptly doubled back toward Saie when he realized where I was heading. Everywhere I turned, he was there. I purposely made eye contact so he knew I caught him, but he didn't seem to care about being obvious. It felt like they want you to know they are following you. They want you to know they think think you're going to steal.
I went to the quick checkout station with just the body washes, and he literally followed me there. While I waited in line, his view was blocked by mirrors, but when I moved up, I saw him peering through a gap on the other side, looking to see where I had gone as his view of me was slighlty blocked. He stayed by a dividing pillar throughout my entire transaction. As I walked toward the exit, I could see his head turning to follow me until I made it completely out of the building.
This was the worst shopping experience I have ever had. My hands were shaking from the anxiety, and I had to compose myself outside. It is sad to see from other reviews that many customers share this experience. It is 2026, and this store still partakes in discrimination. I will not be shopping at this location, let alone Sephora in general. I will stick to Ulta moving forward, their rewards system is ten times better anyway. Discrimination training needs to be redone here 100%. Absolutely disgusting.
