I want to start by saying that I’m not writing this because I think my injector is a bad injector or because I’m unhappy with the final outcome before it has fully settled. My concerns are primarily about communication, documentation, and the overall patient experience. I came in seeking a very conservative treatment focused on a single forehead line. During my consultation, we discussed that I had previously received Dysport once (38 units), that I was unhappy with those results, and that Botox was recommended instead. The injector explained that most likely the Dysport had not been injected into the correct spot to give me the results I’ve been looking for previously. Based on that discussion and being told that additional units would likely be needed at my follow-up appointment, I understood the plan to be a conservative approach that could be adjusted later if needed. When I later learned that 34 units of Botox had been used, I was surprised, as that was significantly different from what I believed we had discussed. At my follow-up appointment, I asked for clarification about the treatment plan and dosing rationale. I was told that the injector believed I had previously received Botox rather than Dysport, which was confusing because our consultation had focused specifically on my prior Dysport treatment and the recommendation to switch products. I was also told that my chart did not document my prior Dysport history or that this was my first Botox treatment. As a healthcare professional myself, I found that concerning because those details were directly relevant to the treatment plan and our discussions. Additionally, when discussing my concerns, I felt that my questions were interpreted as dissatisfaction rather than a patient trying to better understand the rationale behind her treatment. I was not seeking an argument or being confrontational; I was simply asking reasonable questions about the decisions that were made regarding my face and my care. My overall impression was not that the injector lacked technical skill, but rather that there was a disconnect between my treatment goals, the treatment that was performed, and the explanations provided afterward. I left feeling that my concerns were not fully heard and that important aspects of my consultation and treatment history were either not documented or not recalled. For me, trust and communication are just as important as the procedure itself, and unfortunately this experience left me feeling less confident in both.
