  Agree with what others have said about this place being insanely expensive. I had my ears pierced in 1995, so I honestly had no idea what to expect when I decided to have a previously closed piercing redone. The fact that this studio is run by nurses was a big incentive for me because sterile technique and cleanliness are important to me. I figured I’d pay a reasonable piercing fee plus the cost of jewelry and be on my way. Unfortunately, the pricing was shocking. After paying for the piercing, they showed me the jewelry options, and I ended up choosing the least expensive cubic zirconia stud. It was $66 for one earring — a style I could have purchased at Claire’s for around $4.99. The jewelry options went all the way up to nearly $300 PER EARRING. I ended up spending almost $300 total to have one ear re-pierced and purchase a second earring for an ear that already had a piercing. If I’d had more time, I absolutely would have shopped around, but I have an event coming up and needed the piercing done. The actual experience was fine. The studio was clean, I felt safe, and the staff were perfectly pleasant. But there was nothing particularly luxurious about the experience that justified the price for me. If you come here, be prepared to spend at least $100, and likely considerably more depending on the jewelry you choose. I personally found the pricing excessive and would definitely shop around before coming here. I think this version is stronger because it makes the distinction between “I felt safe and liked the sterile/nurse aspect” and “the price was absolutely ridiculous” very clear.

  What an exceptional experience for my almost 4 year old! Once she decided she wanted her ears pierced, I knew I wanted a nursing led process for her. The amazing team at Rowan did not disappoint! They were kind and they gassed my girl up from start to finish. We were thrilled with our experience. If you’re thinking of going with Rowan, just do it!

  Got multiple helix piercings and a conch piercing here with a friend on Sunday! Angie and Marley were so wonderful and patient with me, making sure that I really loved the placement for everything and very helpful with any questions I had during and after the appointment. There was a bit of a wait before my appointment but the girls there were so helpful when checking out their jewelry collection and attentive to me and my friend. Loved my experience so much! I definitely will be recommending and coming back with more friends for theirs in the future!

  Exceptional Experience with Joey! ​I had a fantastic experience getting my helix pierced by Joey! From the moment I walked in, Joey was incredibly patient, professional, and welcoming. ​Getting a helix piercing can make anyone a bit nervous, but Joey took the extra time to explain every step of the process, carefully mapped out the placement, and made sure I was completely comfortable before starting. The procedure itself was swift, precise, and virtually painless thanks to Joey's gentle technique. ​The cleanliness and hygiene standards were top-notch, and the aftercare instructions were clear and thorough. If you are considering getting a piercing at Rowan, I cannot recommend Joey enough—absolutely exceptional service from start to finish! I reduced one star as I feel the service and earrings were a bit pricey.

  I’m not sure how to review Rowan in Durham so I’m going with two starts for now as I wouldn’t recommend them- yet. I booked an appointment for 3 piercings (two secondary lobes and a helix), all with single needle, not ear gun. First, when I needed to amend my appointment, it went straight to a recorded voicemail so that wasn’t preferable, but that’s typical today. When I arrived, they were polite and understanding about the appointment time and it was no problem. The studio was clean and bright. A staff member greeted me, explained the menu prices clearly and helped me to pick out earrings. This took less than 10 minutes and the chair and piercing tray was set up when we were done. Now for why I would not currently recommend, but may amend my review at a later date. Three staff members were there, two in scrubs one in regular clothes. When I sat down, one put on gloves to start the piercing and informed me she was in training, but the rest of the staff would be there the whole time. I asked her to clarify who would be piercing and she said herself. I asked who was in training (again to clarify) and she said “all of us.” I asked how many ears each of them had pierced before- she said NONE and that had all practiced on cardboard cutouts. I was surprised, but so grateful for her honesty. (Which is why I may give them another chance later) I told them I felt uncomfortable with this and I may try back some other time. They were really nice and noted they had opened less than a week ago. While true, what bothered me was that there was no one seasoned in the facility while three people were training who had never pierced someone before. I am also curious about how they have 42 five star reviews for being open 6 days and everyone at the shop that day had not pierced anyone yet. I really hope Rowan brings more experienced people in and I am for people training, just not without pros there. For that reason, I would not currently recommend this location. I don’t have any experience with their other locations. Hoping they will amend this soon. Please ask your piercing person about their experience and go with what’s comfortable for you. Again, I am impressed with their honesty and professionalism about my response.
